PREDICTION: BOSTON COLLEGE , WI-MILWAUKEE

Oddsmakers currently have the BOSTON COLLEGE listed as -17 point favorites versus the WI-MILWAUKEE, while the game’s total is sitting at 146.

Boston College is coming off its first winning season in seven years and has one of the nation’s most exciting players in junior guard Ky Bowman. He and the rest of the Eagles will try to continue the program’s steady rise in 2018-19, beginning with a home game against Milwaukee of the Horizon League on Tuesday.

Bowman averaged 17.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists during a sparkling sophomore season and will be relied upon even more after the departure of fellow guard Jerome Robinson, who was a lottery selection in the NBA after leading Boston College in scoring (20.7). “Going into my first year we all had to believe in one thing and that’s just being able to compete against other teams, but also being able to know that we have each other’s backs,” Bowman recently told reporters of the program’s rebuild. “We knew what we were getting ourselves into, but also knowing that every day we were going to fight.” Bowman is one of four returning starters for a team that won seven ACC games in 2017-18 after going 2-34 in conference play over the previous two seasons. The Panthers were 16-17 in coach Pat Baldwin’s first year at the helm and were picked to finish eighth in the Horizon preseason poll after being hit hard by transfers.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, ACC Network

ABOUT MILWAUKEE (2017-18: 16-17): The team’s top three scorers – guards Jeremiah Bell and Brock Stull and forward Bryce Nze – all transferred from the program last spring and the fourth-leading scorer (Brett Prahl) graduated. That leaves junior guard Bryce Barnes (6.5 points) as the top returning scorer, but the program hopes to get a nice boost from DeAndre Abram, a 6-8 wing player who redshirted last season after two at George Mason. Junior guard Darius Roy is making his program debut after one year at Mercer and another in junior college, and the Oklahoma native put up 22 points and seven rebounds in the team’s exhibition win over Concordia Wisconsin.

ABOUT BOSTON COLLEGE (2017-18: 19-16): Bowman, an All-ACC preseason first team selection, is joined by returning starters Jordan Chatman, Nik Popovic and Steffon Mitchell, a trio that combined for 29.2 points and 17.4 rebounds. Mitchell, a sophomore, ranked seventh in the ACC with 8.3 boards per game and will be joined along the front line by heralded freshman Jairus Hamilton, an athletic 6-8 player who is ranked as the program’s best recruit since Craig Smith in 2002. Chatman was second in the conference from beyond the arc (39.5 percent) and averaged over 15 points in the team’s final seven games before its NIT loss to Western Kentucky.

TIP-INS

1. Milwaukee won the only prior meeting with an upset win in the second round of the 2005 NCAA Tournament.

2. Bowman averaged 22.7 points over his final six games last season.

3. Panthers G Jake Wright, a transfer from Miami (Ohio), has made 192 3-pointers at a 38.9 percent clip in his collegiate career.

PREDICTION: Boston College 79, Milwaukee 62

PREDICTION: WAKE FOREST , BOSTON COLLEGE

Oddsmakers currently have the WAKE FOREST listed as 5.5 point favorites versus the BOSTON COLLEGE, while the game’s total is sitting at .

Boston College and Wake Forest will try to squeeze in an intriguing ACC opener amid the onset of Hurricane Florence when they meet in North Carolina on Thursday night. The storm, a Category 4 hurricane as the week begins, is expected to start impacting the Winston-Salem area as early as Thursday morning, prompting the teams to move the kickoff up two hours to 5:30 p.m. ET.

“Wake Forest University and the Atlantic Coast Conference office continue to monitor the progress of all weather-related issues as they pertain to athletic events this week,” the school said in a statement. “Our top priority is the safety and well being of our student-athletes, coaches, fans and the lives of those in the path of this storm.” Both teams will be trying to stay perfect on the young season, and the Eagles are vying for their first 3-0 start since 2007 after routing Massachusetts and Holy Cross by a combined score of 117-35. Star running back AJ Dillon has picked up where he left off from a stellar freshman campaign, rushing for 247 yards and three touchdowns on just 26 carries through the first two games. The Demon Deacons, who won 34-10 at Boston College last year in the conference opener for both teams, rolled past Towson 51-20 last week and is aiming for its third straight 3-0 start.

TV: 5:30 p.m. ET, ESPN. LINE: Boston College -5

ABOUT BOSTON COLLEGE (2-0): Preparing a football team for a long trip into the path of a hurricane and a Thursday night game can make for a different week, but coach Steve Addazio is doing his best to keep his Eagles focused on football. “All these things are in discussion at this point,” Addazio said at his weekly press conference while discussing the storm threat. “I’m not exactly privy to the details, but in my mind, I’m going to play a game on Thursday and prepared for anything that may come our way.” The rout of Holy Cross last week allowed Addazio to rest many of his starters (Dillon’s 149 yards came in less than a quarter), with quarterback Anthony Brown completing his only two passes before giving way to backups.

ABOUT WAKE FOREST (2-0): Wide receiver Greg Dortch was the team’s leading receiver as a freshman last year despite playing in just eight games, and he has lit up opponents early in his sophomore campaign, first hauling in 12 catches for 149 yards in a win at Tulane and then scoring three times – twice on punt returns – last week. “I may be biased, I think he’s the most exciting player in college football,” fellow wide receiver Alex Bachman told reporters. “Every time he touches the ball there’s a chance something spectacular is going to happen.” The 5-9, 170-pound Dortch has 981 all-purpose yards over his last four games dating back to last season.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Demon Deacons freshman QB Sam Hartman has 620 passing yards, four TDs and three interceptions through the first two games.

2. The Eagles produced 598 total yards in the win over Massachusetts and 610 against Holy Cross. Those are the top two total yardage outputs for the team under Addazio.

3. Boston College has won four of its last five games at Wake Forest.

PREDICTION: Boston College 31, Wake Forest 28

PREDICTION: BOSTON COLLEGE , MASSACHUSETTS

Oddsmakers currently have the BOSTON COLLEGE listed as -18 point favorites versus the MASSACHUSETTS, while the game’s total is sitting at 64.

Boston College has finished 7-6 in four of head coach Steve Addazio’s five seasons, a run of relative mediocrity the program hopes to end in 2018. Much of the Eagles’ success – or lack thereof – will depend upon the legs of bruising sophomore running back AJ Dillon, who leads his team into the season opener at home against in-state rival Massachusetts on Saturday.

Dillon ran for 1,589 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2017 despite opening the year as a backup and is poised to dominate once again behind an offensive line that returns all five starters. “We’ve got a dynamic running back,” offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler told reporters of Dillon. “We have a few dynamic running backs in my mind. Any time the defense has to account for the run game, it makes our throw game much better.” The Minutemen were the first team in college football to pick up a win when they crushed FCS squad Duquesne 63-15 last Saturday. Andrew Ford passed for 186 yards and two touchdowns while his backup Ross Comis accounted for three scores for UMass, which has won five of their last seven dating to 2017.

TV: 1 p.m. ET, ACC Network Extra. LINE: Boston College -18

ABOUT MASSACHUSETTS (1-0): The Minutemen are averaging more than 40 points over their last eight games as the offense continues to take shape under head coach Mark Whipple, but he knows the talent level is about to greatly increase. “BC is a different beast next week, not to take anything away from Duquesne,” Whipple told reporters. “They have bigger guys who are faster.” Bilal Ally gained 109 yards and a TD on the ground while Andy Isabella hauled in five passes for 131 yards and two scores in the rout.

ABOUT BOSTON COLLEGE (2017: 7-6): Anthony Brown showed flashes of potential as a freshman quarterback – including a breakthrough game at Virginia in which he threw for 275 yards and three TDs – before a knee injury in November ended his campaign, and the New Jersey native looks to be on target with his rehab. “I’ve said it a lot, I’m going to say it again: a lot has to do with that trigger man,” Addazio told reporters. “Anthony looks great. Hopefully he’ll continue on his course back and be ready in the appropriate amount of time.” Defensive lineman Zach Allen emerged as a force in 2017 with a team-high six sacks for a unit that held its final five regular-season opponents to 20 points or fewer.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Boston College TE Tommy Sweeney returns after leading the team with 512 receiving yards and four TDs last year.

2. Ford has 11 TD passes and one interception over his last four games.

Boston College coach Jerry York earned his 925th career victory Saturday to claim sole possession of the NCAA’s all-time wins record.

BC fans had to wait a little longer than expected, but the Eagles hockey team came through on Saturday, tagging a 5-2 loss on Alabama-Huntsville in Minneapolis.

In a 41-year career spanning three schools — Clarkson, Bowling Green and Boston College — the 67-year-old York needed an extra five seasons to eclipse Ron Mason, who won 924 in 36 seasons at Lake Superior State, Bowling Green and Michigan State, for a .696 winning percentage. But most hockey observers acknowledge the parity in today’s game makes York’s record equally remarkable.

“He deserves all the accolades,” said Boston University coach Jack Parker in early December. “He’s a very good coach who’s run great programs at three different places, and has done an unbelievable job making this program the best it’s ever been.

“This is a place where they’ve had two other coaches who’ve won 500 games,” said Parker, referring to BC legends John “Snooks” Kelley and Len Ceglarski. “It’s had a lot of good hockey for a long, long time. And he’s the best they’ve ever had.”

The Eagles got York a share of the record on Dec. 1 at home with a 5-2 win over archrival Boston University, but they couldn’t deliver the record a week later, settling for a last-second tie against Hockey East rival Providence, 3-3.

On Saturday, No. 1 BC (12-2-1) left little doubt. The Eagles showcased their depth, getting scoring from five different players — Cam Spiro, Bill Arnold, Danny Linell, Brendan Silk, and Steven Whitney — to dispatch Alabama-Huntsville (3-15-0) in the opening leg of the Mariucci Classic in Minneapolis. Senior goaltender Parker Milner had 26 saves to preserve the win.

The Eagles will shoot for win No. 13 on the season, and 926 for York, on Sunday against No. 4 Minnesota.

York won 125 games in seven years at Clarkson (1972-79), earned 342 victories in 15 years at Bowling Green (1979-94), and has won 458 games in 19 seasons behind the bench at his alma mater.

He is 32-9 in NCAA tournament games as the head coach at Boston College, and his 37 wins in the NCAA tournament are the highest in Division I history. He has led five teams to 30 or more wins, including the 2000-01 and 2011-12 Eagles squads, which each collected a school-record 33 wins. He is also only one of three coaches in NCAA history to lead two different schools — Bowling Green (1984) and Boston College (2001, 2008, 2010 and 2012) — to NCAA titles.
