The Paladins went 3-8 this season and were 27-43 under Fowler. Included was a 20-26 record in the Southern Conference.

Fowler has spent 28 seasons in the program as a player, assistant coach and head coach. He was an assistant on Furman’s 1988 FCS championship team and its 2001 national runner-up squad.

“He’s demonstrated a thorough commitment to the student-athletes and represented Furman in a first-class manner at all times. We certainly wish him the very best,” athletic director Mike Buddie said in a statement.

Furman had two winning seasons under Fowler, his first in 2011 when the Paladins went 6-5 and had Top 10 wins over Appalachian State and Wofford, and in 2013 when they earned a share of the SoCon title and the conference’s automatic bid to the FCS playoffs and finished 8-6.
