A look at the upcoming week around the Atlantic Coast Conference:

GAME OF THE WEEKEND

No. 16 Virginia vs. No. 1 Gonzaga in Fort Worth, Texas, on Saturday. This made-for-TV matchup comes after both programs had to pause because of coronoavirus concerns early in December. Virginia (4-1) got back into action on Tuesday, defeating William & Mary 76-40. The Bulldogs (6-0) defeated Northwestern State of the Southland Conference on back-to-back nights Tuesday and Wednesday. Both teams have lost what would have been marquee games to the pandemic. Virginia missed games against No. 12 Michigan State and No. 5 Villanova, while the Zags missed a game with second-ranked Baylor. Gonzaga did beat No. 4 Iowa 99-88 on Saturday in their first game back after pausing.

LOOKING AHEAD

Florida State and Clemson are better known for their battles on a football field, but when they meet Tuesday night at Littlejohn Coliseum at Clemson, the No. 21 Seminoles will be facing another team that has been in Top 25 after starting with five consecutive victories. The Tigers fell out of the rankings after losing 66-60 at Virginia Tech. Florida State has already beaten Indiana and Florida, which were both ranked to start the season, The Tigers have wins against Power Five schools Mississippi State, Purdue and Maryland.

PLAYER TO WATCH

When Miami visits Virginia Tech on Tuesday night, Jalen Cone needs to be a focus of the Hurricanes’ defense. The sophomore sharpshooter has tallied 18 points in consecutive games, and all 18 he scored in Monday’s victory against Longwood came from behind the 3-point line. He’s made 11 3-pointers in his last two games after hitting just four in his first three.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Sophomore Quincy Guerrier (27), junior Alan Griffin (24) and junior Buddy Boeheim (22) all topped the 20-point plateau in Syracuse’s 107-96 overtime victory against Buffalo on Saturday. It was the first time the Orange had three or more 20-point scorers since a 127-117 victory against Connecticut in six overtimes during the 2009 Big East Tournament. In that game, Jonny Flynn scored 34, Paul Harris had 29, Eric Devendorf had 22 and Andy Rautins had 20. The Orange are in a coronavirus pause after players for a recent opponent was COVID-positive, necessitating they they quarantine.

ON THE WOMEN’S SIDE

The league has been hit by a rash of coronavirus-related postponements and barring a juggling of the schedule will have just one game – Morgan State at Syracuse on Dec. 28 – before New Year’s Eve. Since Dec. 17, the league has lost five games to the pandemic.

A look at the upcoming week around the Southeastern Conference:

GAME OF THE WEEKEND: Kentucky at Louisville, though there’s scant competition. The Wildcats have dropped five games in a row for the first time since John Calipari took over in 2009. They’re off to their worst start since the 1926-1927 season. But Kentucky has won 11 of the last 13 meetings with its in-state rival, including a 78-70 overtime victory last Dec. 28. Louisville returned from a lengthy break due to coronavirus problems with a 85-48 humbling by No. 9 Wisconsin while playing without Cardinals leading scorer Carlik Jones. Both teams have tumbled from the Top 25, with the Wildcats having opened at No. 10. The only other weekend game with an SEC team is Vanderbilt against Alcorn State on Sunday.

LOOKING AHEAD: League games start next week with No. 8 Tennessee’s visit to 14th-ranked Missouri on Wednesday night as the headliner. SEC matchups start Tuesday with Texas A&M visiting LSU and Mississippi at Alabama. South Carolina’s game at Kentucky has been called off because of COVID-19 issues within the Gamecocks program. The SEC has scheduled league games through March 3 with a window after that for makeup games Tennessee was the preseason favorite to win the league followed by Kentucky, LSU, Florida and Alabama.

TOUGH LOSSES

The league has taken some hits from non-Power 5 teams, including Auburn’s loss to UCF, Kentucky to Richmond, LSU to Saint Louis and both Mississippi State and South Carolina falling to Liberty. Richmond also beat Vanderbilt. But SEC teams went 6-1 Tuesday night, a record marred only by Davidson’s 85-65 win over the Commodores.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Georgia’s Toumani Camara, the reigning SEC player of the week, is averaging 17 points and 9.8 rebounds over the last five games. He scored 12 of his 13 points in the second half against Northeastern and collected eight rebounds.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Tennessee and Missouri are the only ranked SEC teams with conference games approaching. Four teams are receiving votes: Arkansas, Florida, Georgia and LSU. … LSU has the league’s No. 2 and No. 3 scorer. Cameron Thomas is averaging 21.6 points per game. Trendon Watford is scoring at an 18.8-point clip. Georgia’s 5-foot-10 guard Sahvir Wheeler is averaging 13.7 points and a league-best 7.4 assists. Nobody else in the league is dishing out five assists per game. … Georgia outscored Northeastern 44-13 in the second half to overcome a 15-point deficit.

ON THE WOMEN’S SIDE: The SEC women’s teams mostly got the week off before with a few tune-up games early next week before league play. All 14 teams will be in action on New Year’s Eve when SEC games tip off. Unlike the men, five SEC women’s teams are ranked: No. 5 South Carolina, No. 9 Texas A&M, No. 11 Arkansas, No. 12 Mississippi State and No. 13 Kentucky. Auburn’s Unique Thompson is leading the nation with an average of 15.3 rebounds per game.

GAME OF THE WEEKEND

After a couple of high-profile Big 12 games during the first true week of conference play, the Big 12 steps back for a long break over the holidays. Nobody has a game until Tuesday, when a handful of teams play non-league games. All of them should be easy wins for the Big 12, though Kansas State may be most vulnerable in its game against Omaha.

LOOKING AHEAD

Might as well skip ahead to the first weekend of the new year, when the Big 12 gets back to league play in a big way. No. 3 Kansas, which is fresh off back-to-back wins over Texas Tech and West Virginia, welcomes No. 10 Texas to Allen Fieldhouse in another matchup of top-10 teams. Second-ranked Baylor hopes to be in action at Iowa State, the seventh-ranked Mountaineers head to Oklahoma and No. 15 Texas Tech gets a visit from Oklahoma State.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

RJ Nembhard of TCU has been the breakout player of the non-conference portion of the season. The junior forward averaged 12.1 points a year ago, but his numbers have shot up to 18.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.9 assists this season. He’s been over 20 points in four of the past six games, and he had 23 against Northwestern State and 16 against Texas A&M in the others.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

The Big 12 has gone 50-12 against other league opponents with five of those losses to Top 25 teams. That win percentage ranks second nationally. Four out of its 10 teams are ranked. … TCU’s Kevin Samuel was the Big 12 player of the week and Texas freshman Greg Brown the league’s top newcomer. … Baylor has scored at least 80 points in six straight games for the first time since 1994. … Iowa State held Jackson State to 24.1% from the field, the lowest shooting percentage by a Cyclones opponent in nearly six years. … Kansas set a school record with 37 3-point attempts against West Virginia. The Jayhawks made 16 of them, one shy of the record for a conference game. … Kansas State hit nine 3s in the first half and 11 overall in a win over Jacksonville.

ON THE WOMEN’S SIDE

Like the men, the Big 12 is taking most of the holiday weekend off on the women’s side. No. 20 Texas joins Kansas, Texas Tech and Oklahoma in playing non-conference games Tuesday before the league schedule resumes again after New Year’s Day. … Baylor’s NaLyssa Smith averaged 20.3 points per game, shot 64.4% from the floor and pulled down nine rebounds a game in earning Big 12 player of the week honors last week. Her teammate Hannah Gusters was the freshman of the week after averaging 15.5 points for the Lady Bears. … Iowa State standout Ashley Joens leads the Big 12 and moved into fifth place nationally with 27 points per game. Charli Collier of Texas ranks in the top 20 nationally at 24.1 per game.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Eric Curry texted his mom last week. He needed a headshot of her and his sister.

The photo request was not for a social media post or a scrapbook project, but rather an effort by the fifth-year senior forward to give his closest family members the chance, virtually, to be present for Minnesota’s upcoming games.

When the Gophers host Iowa in an empty Williams Arena on Christmas night, the good tidings of great joy will have to come from those cardboard faces of parents, siblings and friends strategically placed in prime seats nearest the court.

”That made my heart smile,” said Curry’s mother, Audrea Phipps. ”I feel like every player needs to have cutouts of their families in those stands, and that’s for every team across the country. That would so help those kids, to be able to feel like we’re there with them.”

College basketball teams are accustomed to being busy through the holidays, often absent for family gatherings on Thanksgiving in particular. This pandemic-altered season feels even more isolated with campuses largely cleared out and arena doors closed to fans in many places.

Christmas Day itself is usually reserved for college football and the NBA, but not this year: The Big Ten scheduled four games – Wisconsin at Michigan State, Maryland at Purdue, Michigan at Nebraska and Iowa at Minnesota – on Friday. They are the only college hoops games scheduled.

”We’re all not too excited about that. No knock against Nebraska, but Christmas Day, I don’t think anyone wants to travel away from their place,” said Michigan forward Isaiah Livers. ”Although, still, you’ve got to think about it as being grateful and being blessed and having an opportunity to be on the court. Because the season could have not happened. I see what they were thinking. They were trying to schedule games.”

Normally, family members would make an event of it and see their sons play in person, but state restrictions and conference protocols aimed at stopping the virus spread have prevented so many of these visits. Instead of traveling to Minnesota, Curry’s mother, sister and grandmother will watch from their home in Little Rock, Arkansas.

”He knows I’m always watching, but it’s different when you’re there in person,” Phipps said. ”They may be adult-like and have grown-men bodies and all that, but they’re still kids, honestly. Eric, today, if something goes wrong, he’s still going to call me because I need to fix it for him.”

Programs across the country have attempted to ramp up mental health support at a time when the potential for anxiety or loneliness has spiked for players along with everyone else. There is extra stress, too, each time they arrive for a COVID-19 test, realizing a positive result will force them out of action and away from their surrogate family.

”The emotional and mental fatigue and exhaustion and trauma, even though that may not be the appropriate word, it’s much more real than you imagine,” Texas A&M coach Buzz Williams said.

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski was so concerned earlier this month that he canceled two nonconference games so team members could be home for Christmas.

”They want to go to a football game, and they want to hang out with the regular students. They have none of that,” Rutgers coach Steve Pikiell said. ”So their normal has completely changed, except for when they get in the gym.”

Michigan State players, who ate their Thanksgiving meal while on a Zoom call with their families to keep spirits up on the holiday, had a recruiting room at the Breslin Center temporarily transformed into an arcade and lounge so they could hang out somewhere beside their apartments.

”Forty years ago, I don’t know if I could have done what they’re doing,” coach Tom Izzo said.

Minnesota coach Richard Pitino recently described the vibe akin to the team being on a 15-hour bus trip, only able to see each other.

”We at least get to go home to our families, but these guys are very, very isolated, and it is a huge challenge from a mental health standpoint,” Pitino said. ”You can’t take them bowling. You can’t take them to a movie theater. So you’ve got to be as empathetic as possible.”

Resourceful, too.

”As you get older, you realize how to get release from stress in life, whether it’s go for a walk, work out and exercise, a glass of wine at night, read a book, whatever it is,” Pitino said. ”I don’t know if young people quite know that, so we’re trying to educate them as much as we can.”

The bouncing balls and squeaking sneakers are as good of an antidote as there is. Wisconsin coach Greg Gard called playing games ”a big mental health bonus” and facing a tough opponent helps bring focus.

The freshmen, like Gophers guard Jamal Mashburn Jr., have had the biggest adjustments.

”It’s definitely a struggle. I’m used to seeing my dad who’s my best friend, my hero. It’s hard being away from him,” he said of the elder Mashburn, the former Kentucky and NBA standout. ”He’s also my trainer. He’s my everything. So it’s hard, but I know he’s always going to be there. He calls me every day.”

Kids being kids, though, they’re doing their best to live in the moment.

”I just know I’ve got to take care of business here. Home is always going to be there,” Mashburn said. ”That’s never going to go anywhere.”

A look at the upcoming week around the Big Ten Conference:

GAME OF THE (HOLIDAY) WEEKEND: No. 9 Wisconsin (7-1, 1-0 Big Ten) at No. 12 Michigan State (6-1, 0-1): This Christmas Day matinee – one of four Big Ten games taking place Friday – features the teams that shared the league’s regular-season title with Maryland last season. Wisconsin has nine consecutive Big Ten victories but owns a 4-22 record at the Breslin Center. The Badgers had lost eight straight matchups with Michigan State before edging the Spartans 64-63 in Madison on Feb. 1. Michigan State is trying to bounce back from a stunning 79-65 loss at Northwestern in its Big Ten opener. The Big Ten’s other Christmas Day games include Maryland at Purdue, No. 19 Michigan at Nebraska and No. 4 Iowa at Minnesota.

LOOKING AHEAD: The Big Ten’s strength is evident from the fact that half of its 14 members are part of the Top 25: Iowa, Wisconsin, No. 11 Rutgers, Michigan State, No. 18 Illinois, Michigan and No. 23 Ohio State. But the early part of the season suggests the teams in the bottom half of the league might make some noise, too. Northwestern grabbed plenty of attention with its victory over a Michigan State that was ranked fourth at the time, marking the Wildcats’ first win over a top-five team since 1979. Wisconsin won 67-53 at home against Nebraska on Tuesday, but only after the Cornhuskers built a 10-point edge in the first half and briefly led after halftime. Perhaps that’s an indication this Big Ten season might produce a few more upsets than usual.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Minnesota’s Marcus Carr collected 32 points and seven assists in a 90-82 victory over Saint Louis on Sunday. That marked the junior guard’s second game this season with at least 30 points, as he had 35 in a season-opening triumph over Green Bay. Carr is averaging 23.9 points and six assists this season. He has scored at least 15 points in each of Minnesota’s first eight games and has at least 26 points in half of them.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Iowa’s Luka Garza leads the nation in scoring (29.3). He has scored 20-plus points in 17 straight Big Ten games, the longest such streak since Ohio State’s Dennis Hopson also did it in 17 straight games in 1987. . Northwestern is 2-0 in Big Ten competition for the first time since the 2005-06 season. The Wildcats followed their upset of Michigan State by winning 74-67 at Indiana. … Illinois beat Penn State 98-81 on Wednesday while posting its highest point total in a Big Ten non-overtime game since a 99-57 triumph over Northwestern on March 8, 1995. … Wisconsin hasn’t exceeded 11 turnovers in 27 consecutive games. The Badgers entered the week having committed the fewest turnovers per game of any Division I team. . Maryland had just four turnovers – its lowest total in Mark Turgeon’s 10-season coaching tenure – during an 84-71 victory over La Salle on Tuesday.

ON THE WOMEN’S SIDE: The Big Ten leads all conferences with six schools in the Top 25, though none of its teams are in the top 13. The ranked Big Ten teams include No. 14 Maryland, No. 15 Northwestern, No. 16 Ohio State, No. 17 Michigan, No. 19 Indiana and No. 25 Michigan State. The Big Ten last had six ranked teams in Jan. 14, 2019. . Maryland has scored over 100 points in three of its last four games. The Terrapins have six players averaging 11 points, led by Diamond Miller with 18 points per game.

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) Former Detroit Pistons and Florida Atlantic coach Michael Curry has joined Georgia coach Tom Crean’s staff.

Crean on Wednesday named Curry, who played in the NBA for 11 seasons, as the Bulldogs’ player development assistant. Crean also added Tim Dather as director of basketball strategy.

Curry, 52, was 39-43 as the Pistons coach in 2008-09. He was 39-84 at Florida Atlantic from 2014-18. Curry also held executive positions with the NBA Players Association and the NBA.

”Michael Curry is one of the most universally respected people in basketball,” Crean said. ”He’s got the experiences of nothing ever being handed to him and having to earn everything and has had much success through pure hard work, grit, personality and being a great teammate. I want our players surrounded by those qualities.”

Curry said he met Crean when the coach worked at Marquette and he played for the Milwaukee Bucks.

”I’m excited to be back and around the game,” Curry said. ”I’ve always felt like I had a great defensive mind with the game. I wanted to continue to expand my offensive thought process and always have liked how coach Crean’s teams played with pace. To have a chance to keep learning from that and be on the Power-5 level here at Georgia is perfect.”

Curry played with the Indiana Pacers, Toronto Raptors, Detroit Pistons, Milwaukee, Washington Bullets, Philadelphia 76ers and Sacramento Kings.

Curry and Dather fill an opening on Georgia’s staff left when Dice Yoshimoto accepted a position with the New York Knicks.

ATLANTA (AP) Carver College has become college basketball’s equivalent of the Washington Generals, barnstorming from city to city, playing games almost every night, enduring one enormous beating after another.

Appalachian State 105, Carver 23.

Wofford 111, Carver 37.

Georgia Southern 92, Carver 27.

Yet there’s one big difference between the Cougars and that hapless foil of the Harlem Globetrotters.

Carver always takes the court expecting to win, even though there’s virtually no chance of that happening unless the other team fails to show up.

”I don’t have that mindset,” says the team’s eternally optimistic coach, Bryan Spencer. ”This is competitive sports, man. It’s about winning. It’s about competing. I never go into a contest expecting to lose.”

But Spencer is also a realist.

He’s coaching at a miniscule, historically Black Bible college – enrollment: roughly 60 students – located in a former Seventh-day Adventist grade school on Atlanta’s west side.

Most Atlantans have never heard of Carver, myself included – and I’ve lived here most of my life.

”I hadn’t heard of it either, honestly,” concedes point guard Glenn Sims, who grew up in Atlanta.

In this most atypical of seasons, tiny Carver has emerged as perhaps the most unique team of all – the pandemic converging with the Cougars to produce a slate of hopeless games for a team that never loses hope.

With NCAA Division I teams facing cancellations on an almost daily basis because of COVID-19 and desperate to schedule as many games as possible, often with little notice, Carver has stepped into the void as a willing patsy.

They collect a check and gain what Spencer believes will be much-needed exposure, valuable experience and a lifetime of memories.

Never mind that the Cougars are members of not the NCAA but the NCCAA – National Christian College Athletic Association – a collection of tiny schools that don’t have anywhere close to the resources needed to compete against mid-majors like Georgia State, Florida International and Liberty.

Spencer recognizes the unique position his school is in, one that may never come around again. Even with the virus raging – and, yes, it’s stricken some of his players – he believes it’s worth the risk.

He’ll pick up the phone for pretty much any team that calls, willingly sending his team into games that are roughly akin to the Christians vs the Lions in ancient Rome.

The Cougars have already played 15 times, all of them on the road, losing every one by an average of nearly 59 points.

Their best showing was a 35-point setback to Charleston Southern. More typical was their most recent outing, a 111-34 blowout at Florida International on Monday night.

Then again, they must’ve been exhausted. The Cougars were playing for the fourth straight night, and the seventh time in eight days, shuttling in two school vans over a vast expanses of the South stretching from Lynchburg, Virginia to Miami, Florida.

At least they’ve got a few days off over the Christmas holiday.

The Cougars’ next game is Sunday at Jacksonville State of the Ohio Valley Conference.

Chances are, it will be another mammoth loss.

”I go in understanding the odds we’re against,” Spencer says. ”But the lessons we’re getting are totally invaluable. And I really believe – I know – that if we can close the gap in physical maturity, some of these scores you’re seeing, they’re gonna flip.”

He chuckled just a bit, adding a quick caveat.

”I’m not saying we’re going to beat them by 60 or 70 points,” Spencer interjects. ”But we truly believe we can beat these teams some day.”

His players sure seem to be enjoying the ride. Granted, it’s no fun getting pulverized night after night, but most of the games are being carried on ESPN’s streaming service, so friends and family are getting to see them play.

”It’s really been a blessing in disguise,” Sims says. ”We’re getting to play a schedule that not many people get to play, especially at our level.”

This Bingo Long of a season has already produced a trove of humorous anecdotes.

Just the other day, Spencer couldn’t find the keys to one of the vans before the team departed Atlanta for the 6 1/2-hour drive to DeLand, Florida to face Stetson.

Turns out, they were in his bag all along, but the delay in getting away meant the team didn’t even have time to check into its hotel before the game. The Cougars drove straight to the arena (and were beaten 95-52 in one of their better showings).

Sims chuckled at how Spencer got a call while the team was on its way to the next game, which resulted in the coach sheepishly telling his players via group text that he’d just added more games to the already brutal schedule.

”It’s kind of like a recurring joke,” Sims says. ”He’ll just throw in at the last second, `OK, guys, we’ve got another game.”

Carver was founded in 1943, but the basketball program has only been around for about two decades.

It was the brainchild of the late school president Robert Crummie, who wanted to use the team as a religious outreach for young Black men.

”He called it his second-chance ministry,” Spencer says. ”He was looking for guys who could play basketball but maybe had gotten off on the wrong path. He just wanted to give them an opportunity to play the game they love, and also give us the opportunity to reach them. We’re a Bible college. We have a chance to reach them spiritually.”

Now that the word is out, Spencer is getting several calls a day from schools that are eager to beef up their depleted schedules with last-minute games.

Every one that Carver plays bolsters its bottom line, if not its record.

The program is entirely self-supporting, with no money coming out of the university’s extremely tight budget. Spencer is the only paid coach, though he does have two volunteer assistants. The team’s facilities are decrepit: a puny gym with a parquet floor that desperately needs replacing, though that hasn’t been much of an issue in a season where the Cougars have yet to play a home game and there’s hardly any time for practicing.

Spencer does worry that the enormity of the losses – 10 of them by more than 60 points – will take a poll on his young team, which counts seven freshmen on its 11-man roster.

He’s not as concerned about the virus, saying his team has to get tested at least three times a week to ensure opponents that it’s not spreading COVID-19 around the country.

”The scary part about doing this,” Spencer says, ”is destroying their mental confidence and psyche. But myself and our coaches think we’re doing a very good job of keeping the guys motivated and hungry and understanding of the big picture that’s going on.”

Indeed, the players seem to get it.

”It’s not discouraging at all,,” said Paul Hepburn. the team’s tallest player, a 6-foot-9 native of the Bahamas.

Really? Not at all? ”We don’t look at it that way,” Hepburn insists.

Spencer is constantly reminding his players that basketball is merely a game they love playing. It doesn’t define who they are as men. He also points out that life’s most valuables lessons generally come from adversity, not triumph.

If that’s the case, these guys should do well in life.

”The reason our guys play so hard on the court is nobody else would give them a chance,” Spencer said. ”Once they get here, it’s family. It’s love. It’s not just an experience, it’s true love. That’s what they get at Carver College.’

Then he adds the most important message of all.

”It’s not the end of the world when we lose.”

Things to watch this week in Pac-12 Conference basketball:

GAME OF THE WEEK: UCLA at No. 25 Oregon, Wednesday. The Ducks (6-1, 1-0 Pac-12) moved back into the AP Top 25 this week after stretching their winning streak to six games with wins over San Francisco and Portland. Oregon has won 26 straight home games, the fourth-longest winning streak in Division I. UCLA (5-2, 1-0) was No. 22 in the preseason poll, but dropped out after an opening loss to San Diego State and needing three overtimes to beat Pepperdine. UCLA is coming off a 77-70 loss to No. 23 Ohio State.

LOOKING AHEAD: The Pac-12 has a light slate of games during the holiday week, with just seven games, none after Wednesday. Colorado and Arizona play the only conference games in the next week, facing off Monday at McKale Center. … Washington State, at 7-0, is off to its best start since opening 14-0 in 2007-08. The Cougars face Northwestern State on Wednesday with a chance to finish the nonconference season undefeated.

LAS VEGAS (AP) McKinley Wright IV scored 21 points and Evan Battey scored 16 and Colorado used a late run to beat Grand Canyon 74-64 on Tuesday night in a Far West Classic contest.

Colorado (6-1) led the entire second after the two squads played to a 27-all tie at intermission. The Buffs extended their lead to 57-48 on Maddox Daniels’ 3-pointer with 8:02 left to play before the Lopes (4-4) rallied and closed to within 60-59 on Sean Miller-Moore’s layup with 5:17 to go.

Jeriah Horne countered with 3 to start a 10-0 Colorado run and the Buffaloes were never challenged again. Horne finished with 12 points and five rebounds.

Jovan Blacksher Jr. scored 17 points for the Lopes on 7-for-9 shooting, Asbjorn Midtgaard scored 16 missing one of nine shot attempts and Miller-Moore 12 on 5-for-6 shooting.

Grand Canyon shot 51% to 50% for Colorado, but the Buffaloes were 18 for 21 from the foul line against 5 for 8 for Grand Canyon. Colorado entered the game leading the nation in free throw shooting at 85.8%.

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) Nathan Mensah recorded 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead San Diego State to a 74-49 win over Saint Mary’s on Tuesday night in a game played at a neutral site because of coronavirus restrictions.

Terrell Gomez had 13 points for San Diego State (6-1). Jordan Schakel added 12 points. Matt Mitchell had 10 points.

San Diego State dominated the first half and led 40-20 at halftime. The Gaels’ 20 points in the first half marked a season low. shooting just 7-for-28.

Logan Johnson tied his career high with 15 points for the Gaels (8-2), whose eight-game winning streak was broken.
