EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) The Dallas Cowboys have everything in front of them, and one little nagging thing behind them: the New York Giants.

The winners of 11 straight games, the Cowboys (11-1) can clinch the NFC East and move a step closer to nailing down home-field advantage for the conference playoffs if they can beat the Giants (8-4) at MetLife Stadium on Sunday night.

While the Cowboys insist this is just another game, you know there has to be some churning inside them in facing their division rivals.

After all, the Giants are the reason Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott and company aren’t perfect.

New York posted a 20-19 win in Dallas in the season opener, and one has to believe Jason Garrett’s crew wants payback. And if not that, the Cowboys certainly don’t want to go into the playoffs wondering if they can beat the Giants.

”I’m looking forward to it a lot personally, and then I know this team,” Prescott said. ”They’re the only blemish on our record right now, and just to be able to go up there at their place and be able to do what they did to us the first game, we’re excited for the opportunity.”

The Giants know the Cowboys will be motivated.

”They’re on a roll right now and I’m sure they don’t want to lose,” Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. said. ”We’re the only team that has beaten them. I’m sure that that’s on their mind, too. They feel that they could be 12-0. They’re going to try and come out and prove that they should be undefeated. It’s going to be a big challenge.”

The challenge got bigger for the Giants on Wednesday when defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul was lost for at least the rest of the regular season after having surgery to repair a sports hernia.

Not only did the team lose one of its playmakers on defense, it came in a week when the Giants are facing new questions after a poor performance in Pittsburgh ended their six-game winning streak. They still hold the top spot in the wild-card playoff chase, but their schedule is tough with Detroit, Philadelphia and Washington in the final three weeks.

”We believe we are a really good team, even though we haven’t played our best ball yet,” Giants linebacker Jonathan Casillas said. ”If we can put the game together this week, I think it will be a statement game, but we have to do it. We have to be able to win, and that’s easier said than done.”

Here are some things to watch in the nationally televised game:

REPLACING JPP: Free-agent rookie Romeo Okwara probably will start at left defensive end, with Kerry Wynn and Owa Odighizuwa backing him up. Don’t be surprised if the Giants occasionally flip Olivier Vernon to the left side just to give the Cowboys something to think about. Linebacker Devon Kennard might see time as a stand-up speed rusher. Wynn is the best run stopper of the group, so he may need to get more time if the Giants want to limit Elliott, who leads the league in rushing.

RESPECT FROM ODB: Beckham knows a thing or two about starring right away after winning the 2014 Offensive Rookie of the Year award. So he’s highly complimentary of Prescott and Elliott. ”Absolutely, on the Giants or not on the Giants, you have to respect that,” Beckham said.

Beckham, a former LSU star, remembers facing Mississippi State’s Prescott when they were in the SEC, and he offered Elliott advice on life in the NFL before the season. ”I love to see Zeke out there celebrating,” Beckham said. ”I love to see Dak out there with a smile. You just want to minimize that this Sunday.”

GIANTS OFFENSE: The offense has been inconsistent. It has yet to score 30 points. The running game is among the worst in the league and Beckham has been the only playmaker for Eli Manning. Against the Steelers, Victor Cruz was not targeted once. The week before, Sterling Shepard wasn’t targeted against Cleveland.

”We need to score more points and be more productive. Just have to overall execute better,” Beckham said.

LEADING 88?: Dez Bryant’s next receiving touchdown will push him past Michael Irvin for second on Dallas’ career list. Both have 65. Irvin is the ”Hall of Famer 88,” who followed the ”Original 88” in Drew Pearson, who had 48 touchdowns. The franchise leader is another Hall of Famer, Bob Hayes, with 71.

”He gets that confidence going and I have all the confidence in him,” Prescott said. ”He feels no one can guard him and I feel the same way.”

STOPPING ELLIOTT: The Giants held Elliott to a season-low 51 yards on 20 carries in his first game. The key is in the middle with tackles Damon Harrison and Johnathan Hankins. ”From the very first time we played against him, we all said that that guy is going to be a player in this league, and that seems to be true up until this point,” Harrison said.

Concerned about team chemistry after a loud verbal disagreement between Dez Bryant and Joseph Randle carried over onto the practice field Friday, Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett met individually with those two players and an equally incensed Josh Brent later that day and then discussed the subject with the entire team on Saturday, according to league sources.

The meeting was described as tense, and Garrett seriously considered whether Randle’s continued presence on the team might be an impediment to harmony in the locker room.

When asked if Randle would play on Sunday against the Cardinals and remain part of the team, one source answered, “Randle is staying for now.”

Randle is the backup to NFL rushing leader DeMarco Murray and his role has increased in recent weeks as the Cowboys attempt to avoid overworking Murray.

Bryant and Brent were furious about Randle mentioning their legal problems to Frisco police as he was being booked into jail for shoplifting charges. The tape has since become public, revealing to the players what Randle said about them while he expressed to the police concerns the Cowboys might suspend him.

While he may avoid further punishment from the team, Randle apparently has been ostracized by some teammates. The Cowboys fined Randle the equivalent of a game check for the shoplifting arrest.

The Cowboys have Lance Dunbar and veteran Ryan Williams (practice squad) on the roster at running back.

One day after coach Jason Garrett wouldn’t say if he was going to continue calling the offensive plays, offensive line coach Bill Callahan repeated that stance on Thursday.

In a news conference introducing the Dallas Cowboys coaches for the 2013 season, Callahan downplayed any potential changes within the structure of the offensive staff.

“I checked my ego at the door a long time ago,” said Callahan, who has called the offensive plays with the Oakland Raiders and the University of Nebraska, where he was a head coach.

“It doesn’t matter who calls the plays. We know what the play is going to be so there’s no guessers, no surprises and I think the players can tell you that as well. If you’re a good football team and you have an identity of what you’re doing, they can tell you the play that’s going to be called and featured in that particular down and distance, there’s no mystery,” he said.

There seems to be a mystery regarding the playcaller, especially after team owner/general manager Jerry Jones wanted to make change within the coaching staff by saying he wanted people uncomfortable. Jones said it would be Garrett’s decision to decide if he didn’t want to call the offensive plays anymore.

Callahan said he embraces Jones’ thoughts and he hasn’t spoken to the owner regarding the playcalling but, “I would be very happy to speak with him.”

The Cowboys had the seventh-best offense in the league yet there was some game mismanagement issues with Garrett and the running attack finished 31st overall. Each year, Garrett said he’s delegated duties to other offensive coaches. However, after the 2012 season, Garrett said he expected the status quo to remain in terms of calling the plays.

Jones changed the dynamic at Valley Ranch insisting his coaching staff be open minded about things. Garrett has agreed, however, he won’t reveal if one of those changes is giving the play-calling duties to Callahan.

Garrett said the mechanics needed to be worked out before a final decision is made about the playcaller. When asked about the specifics, Garrett wouldn’t say.
“I got the upmost confidence in Coach Garrett and what he believes and how he wants to go about the process of going through playcalling, whatever it may be,” Callahan said. “So be it. My job and my function as an assistant is to serve the head coach and I’m going to do that to the best of my ability every day I come to work you put your best foot forward and compete.”

Callahan dismissed the notion that he would have to implement the West Coast offense, something he used with the Raiders, over Garrett’s timing-based passing attack.

Callahan said he’s been around long-enough to work with any offensive system. The only difference is the terminology.

“Again, I’ve partaken in playcalling during the games here,” Callahan said. “I’ve done it at several places. It’s a group effort whether it’s collecting thoughts on the sidelines between series as to what plays we’d like to run and getting those ideas from the staff, whether it’s doing it while we are online during the course of a series, whether it’s on the sidelines and somebody’s the primary caller, it really doesn’t matter because I just hearken back to the point I made about preparation of the game plan. It’s a group effort.”
