FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) The Los Angeles Rams have given coach Jeff Fisher and general manager Les Snead contract extensions.

Rams spokesman Artis Twyman confirmed the moves before Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots. The deal for Fisher was first reported by the NFL Network, which said it was a two-year extension through 2018.

Twyman said he couldn’t comment on terms of the deals. He said, ”I think that’s something coach Fisher will discuss after the game.”

In his fifth season with the Rams, the first four in St. Louis, Fisher has presided over a 31-43-1 record. They have yet to finish above .500 in his tenure and they haven’t made the playoffs since 2004.

Snead also became the Rams’ general manager in 2012, taking over a 2-14 team.

Both Fisher and Snead were in the final month of their deals. Owner Stan Kroenke, who moved the franchise from St. Louis to Los Angeles this year, has praised Fisher, a Southern California native, for capably shepherding the team’s move.

Fisher was in a similar position in 1997 when the Houston Oilers moved to Nashville. He oversaw that transition during his fourth season in charge of that franchise, and by 1999 the Titans were AFC champions, losing, coincidentally, to the Rams in the Super Bowl.

Fisher coached the Titans through 2010, then was hired by the Rams after sitting out the 2011 season.

Fisher also has been a co-chairman of the NFL’s powerful Competition Committee, which helps set the rules.

Before joining the Rams, Snead spent 13 seasons in the Falcons’ front office.

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) Jared Goff nearly made his NFL debut Sunday after starting quarterback Case Keenum bruised his non-throwing hand during the Los Angeles Rams’ fourth consecutive loss.

”I said, `Jared, get warmed up, get ready,”’ Rams coach Jeff Fisher said Monday. ”He said, `Coach, I’m ready.’ I said, `I know you are.”’

But when Keenum determined he could continue, the NFL’s No. 1 overall draft pick remained rooted to the Los Angeles bench, where he has stayed for the entire first half of his rookie year. The Rams subsequently lost their fourth straight game, falling to 3-5 in a season that could be slipping away.

Fisher believes Goff is ready to play if needed, but he still doesn’t expect his prized pick to make his debut soon, despite the ”We want Goff!” chants that echoed down from the Coliseum stands, imploring the Rams to see what they’ve got.

Keenum will start again this weekend when the Rams visit the similarly struggling New York Jets (3-6).

”I know everybody wants to talk about it, and that’s the big question,” Fisher said. ”He’s going to play. Whether it’s the following week or the following week, it’s eventually going to happen. Big-picture, as I keep saying, this is about making sure he’s ready to go out there and be sharp and give us a chance to win.”

But the Rams haven’t won since Oct. 2, largely due to an offense that’s showing few signs of progress lately. Other than a solid effort in a loss at Detroit last month, the Rams’ offense hasn’t cracked 20 points since September. They got a meager one touchdown and 10 points apiece in the last two games from a unit ranked 31st in total offense with just 311.5 yards per game.

Although his passer rating is a pedestrian 77.2, ranking him 29th among players with at least 100 pass attempts this season, Keenum has been neither spectacular nor terrible most weeks. He has been just solid enough to allow Fisher to make a persuasive argument that Keenum isn’t the Rams’ biggest problem.

Todd Gurley and the running game are largely unable to move the ball, and they’re currently sitting 30th in the NFL with just 77.2 yards per game after Gurley’s 48-yard performance against Carolina. A standout quarterback can prevent defenses from focusing on the running game, but repeatedly playing with a deficit has forced Los Angeles to abandon the ground attack early, which means Gurley has just 41 carries in the last three games.

Fisher claims he understands the fans’ eagerness and the logic behind their urgency, but the inert offensive effort against Carolina didn’t change his mind. He also rejected the notion that the Rams won’t turn to Goff unless they’re out of the playoff race later this season. The Rams haven’t made the playoffs since 2004 or had a winning record since 2003.

”I don’t think the playoff contention (metric) is fair to the football team,” Fisher said. ”Our expectations are we’re going to stay in it, so we’ll see. I’m not ruling out the possibility that he’ll make a playoff run for us as well. But for right now, Case is starting, and we’re going to New York.”

Fisher also has no public concerns about his contract status. The veteran coach’s deal is up this season, and owner Stan Kroenke has made no public announcement about Fisher’s future after four straight losing seasons with the club.

”I’m not uncomfortable at all,” Fisher said. ”I’m uncomfortable because I didn’t expect to be 3-and-whatever we are, but I’m not uncomfortable at all. I never look over my shoulder. We’re moving on. Stan and I are on the same page. He understands what we’ve been through. He’s as disappointed as I am with the losses, two or three points, seven points, in the last three games. He understands that we’re competitive and we’re doing everything we possibly can to get this turned around.”

BAGSHOT, England (AP) Rams coach Jeff Fisher has often stressed the importance of a quick emotional turnaround.

Dwell on the result of a game for a day, then move on.

And while the Los Angeles Rams had to endure a seven-hour flight after a 31-28 loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday, coping with the outcome didn’t last much longer.

”That 24-hour rule is serious,” left tackle Rodger Saffold said. ”For us, we moved eight hours ahead, so our 24-hour rule was a lot shorter.”

Avoiding any type of panic could be fortunate for the Rams (3-3), who dropped their past two games after winning three of their first four for the first time since 2006.

As they regrouped on Wednesday for practice, beginning their on-field preparations for a game on Sunday against the New York Giants at Twickenham Stadium, they did so believing that a week in London could spur them out of their skid.

”It was a good day to get back out here,” strong safety T.J. McDonald said. ”We got back into the feel of things, and to be back here on the grass feels good.”

Rather than return to Los Angeles following the loss to the Lions, the Rams crossed the Atlantic, arriving just before 9 a.m. local time on Monday.

To give his players ample opportunity to rest and get acclimated to the time change, Fisher reworked the team’s practice schedule, granting players the rest of Monday and all of Tuesday off.

A handful of players represented the team at a community event in nearby Guildford on Tuesday, while others, including McDonald, ventured into downtown London – roughly 30 miles, or an hour’s drive, away.

”I think you shortchange the players if, you know, we wake up in the morning and we go out and practice and we come in and we go to meetings and that’s it,” Fisher said, before recalling a conversation he had with one player.

”I said, `How was your day?’ He goes, `I went to London. It was the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. I’m calling Mom and Dad to tell them this is a really cool place.’ You want to give them some time to do that.”

On the field, significant attention will be paid to the matchup against the Giants’ offense, which enters Sunday ranked third in the league with 288.2 passing yards per game.

That’s of particular concern to Los Angeles, which had a three-game winning streak earlier this season because of a stout defense, but that group has struggled each of the past two weeks.

The Rams allowed 30 points at home to the Buffalo Bills on Oct. 9 and then squandered a seven-point lead over the Lions late on Sunday.

”You definitely have to learn how to finish games,” linebacker Alec Ogletree said. ”When you don’t know how to finish games, you tend to lose a lot of games. Most games are settled pretty much by three points or less, so if you’re not able to finish games, it’s tough to win in this league.”

Should the Rams be unable to do so on Sunday, they’ll face another long flight – this one approximately 10 hours – and will enter their bye week with a three-game losing streak and, for the first time this season, a losing record.

”We’ve taken the approach that it doesn’t matter where you play or what time or who you play,” Fisher said. ”You’ve just got to go out and play. That’s what they’ve bought into.”

NOTES: DT Michael Brockers (thigh) and CB Trumaine Johnson (high ankle sprain) did not practice, while DE Robert Quinn (shoulder) and DE William Hayes (ankle) were limited. … Not only will the Rams be playing at Twickenham, the home of England’s national rugby team, but they’re also practicing this week at Pennyhill Park, a resort and spa where the English team has trained since 2003. … Wide receiver Brian Quick embraced the local sporting culture, donning a cricket helmet and taking swings with England players Liam Plunkett and Sam Billings for a local TV station.

St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher confirmed season-ending injuries to left tackle Jake Long and receiver Brian Quick on Monday afternoon.

Long suffered a torn right ACL and Quick a torn rotator cuff and separated shoulder, in Sunday’s 34-7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Both injuries will require surgery and end the 2014 season after seven games for both players.

The Rams will place Long and Quick on injured reserve in the next couple of days as they re-shuffle the roster to get ready for next week’s game at San Francisco.

According to Fisher, Long suffered the injury with 4:19 to go in the third quarter when he got hit low on the outside of the leg by a Chiefs defensive tackle.

Long’s injury is the second of its kind to the same knee in a span of 308 days. In an eerie bit of coincidence, quarterback Sam Bradford suffered his second ACL injury to the same knee 307 days after his initial tear.

Like Bradford, Long’s contract combined with his latest knee injury could make his future in St. Louis tenuous at best.

Long’s base salary was guaranteed only for the first two years, meaning the Rams could part with him after the season with little penalty.

Long is scheduled to count $10.5 million against the cap next year and $10 million against the cap in 2015. But the only money in those totals guaranteed is the prorated part of his original $5 million signing bonus. That comes to $2.5 million in dead money if the team releases him but with a net savings of $8 million.

Before the injury, Fisher said he believed Long was rounding into form after some rough moments in the opening weeks.

“He had an issue a couple weeks ago but last week he played really well,” Fisher said. “He played his best game to date last week and he was off to a great start in this game. He was strong, he was stout, he was playing well. It’s very unfortunate.”

Rookie Greg Robinson, the No. 2 overall pick in May’s draft, moved from left guard to left tackle in Long’s stead against the Chiefs and will now head back to that spot on a more permanent basis.

“That’s what he does,” Fisher said. “He’ll have a week to work on the footwork and things like that this week but he went out there and knew what to do … at the tackle position he’ll be fine.”

Quick left the game after a 10-yard catch with just under 12 minutes to go in the second quarter. He landed awkwardly after making the grab near the Chiefs sideline as cornerback Jamell Fleming brought him down.

Quick is under his rookie contract through 2015 but was in the midst of a possible breakthrough third season before the injury. In a little more than six games, he had already set career highs in receptions (25), receiving yards (375) and touchdowns (three).

“He was very productive,” Fisher said. “He took advantage of all the opportunities, he made tough plays, tough catches, we’re going to miss him. But as is the case when you have injured players, people step up so we have got to have people step up.”

In Quick’s case, the people stepping in will be Stedman Bailey and Chris Givens.

Suspended former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams has already met with the Tennessee Titans and is on the verge of becoming the Titans’ assistant head coach, according to league sources.

Before Williams can finalize a contract with the Titans, however, he first must be reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell — a move that could come as early as this week.

Should Williams be reinstated, no obstacles are expected on the contractual front, according to sources. The two sides are familiar with each other, with Williams having worked in Tennessee from 1993-2000.

Williams already has met with Titans officials, including head coach Mike Munchak, who is said to be in favor of Williams’ addition to the staff, according to sources.

Additionally, former Titans and St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher has endorsed Williams to his former employer. Fisher hired Williams to lead St. Louis’ defense this season, but Williams’ suspension for his role in the Saints’ bounty scandal lasted the entirety of the 2012-13 season. Williams was not retained by the Rams at season’s end.

Neither Williams nor his representatives could be reached for comment.
