ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyle Korver will miss his second straight game with a sore right foot, the latest injury issue for the NBA champions.

Korver will not play Saturday night against Orlando after sitting out Thursday’s loss at Detroit. The foot has been bothering him for several weeks and worsened in Monday night’s loss to Miami. Coach Tyronn Lue said Korver will likely undergo further tests and ”they’re going to re-evaluate in a few days.”

Korver had finally adjusted to playing with the Cavs, who acquired him a January trade from Atlanta. He’s averaging 11.1 points and shooting 49 percent on 3-pointers.

The Cavs, who have lost three straight going into their game with the Magic, have been dealing with major injuries all season. They lost newly signed center Andrew Bogut for the remainder of the season after he broke his left leg just 58 seconds into his debut on Monday night. Also, Cleveland is still playing without All-Star forward Kevin Love, who is recovering from knee surgery but nearing a return.

Guard J.R. Smith played his first game in nearly three months on Thursday after having surgery on a broken right thumb.

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio (AP) Kyle Korver feels mostly moved in. Off the floor, that is.

The newest member of the Cleveland Cavaliers still has some adjusting to do before he feels completely at home with the NBA champions, who have struggled of late.

”Every day it gets better and better,” he said.

Acquired earlier this month in a trade with Atlanta, Korver practiced with the Cavs for the first time in Ohio on Wednesday as the team regrouped from the longest road trip of the season – a coast-to-coast odyssey – that ended with an embarrassing 126-91 blowout loss to the Golden State Warriors, who sent a message in January they hope resonates in June.

While Korver, one of the NBA’s most lethal 3-point shooters has felt welcomed by his new teammates, he’s still trying to fit in with them on the court. Cleveland is just 1-3 since Korver arrived and the team’s struggles are at least loosely linked to them trying to incorporate him into the offense.

Although it wasn’t intentional, the Cavs found themselves forcing passes to Korver, who went 2 for 10 from the field and missed his first five 3-pointers in his first two games. He found his range against Sacramento and Golden State, going 11 of 20 (7 of 14 on 3s) and providing a glimpse of Cleveland’s potential when they get back to full strength.

”The more time we spend together, the better chemistry we’re going to have,” Korver said. ”A lot of what my game is, is based on chemistry. Getting a good feel for the guys, me getting a feel for them, them getting a feel for me and how I play. Every day gets a little better.”

Cleveland went just 3-3 on its trip, which began in Brooklyn and concluded in the Bay Area, where the Cavs were thumped by the rival Warriors in their first visit to Oracle Arena since winning Game 7 of last year’s finals there.

The game included another run-in between LeBron James and Golden State’s Draymond Green, who was called for a Flagrant 1 foul after he collided with Cleveland’s superstar. The two have scrapped before as Green was suspended from Game 5 in the finals for hitting James in the groin.

Cavs coach Tyronn Lue felt Green was putting the champs on notice with his hard foul.

”Was it a statement? I think so,” Lue said. ”He didn’t want to let LeBron get in the open court and get a dunk or layup and he took a hard foul. He wanted to try to send a message to our team.”

Following the lopsided loss, there was a typical overreaction by some Cleveland fans and media members, who were quick to question all the Cavs recent issues as if they had just dropped their 10th straight game and not just four of their past seven.

Lue said trying to integrate Korver, whose role will change again when J.R. Smith returns from a thumb injury later this season, was a challenge on the trip.

A few days of practice – and a home matchup on Saturday against San Antonio – will either help the Cavs find their rhythm or expose more flaws.

Lue was asked if his team has enough playmakers.

”You can’t make a trade every day,” he said. ”We acquired Kyle Korver and we’ve got to be patient for other pieces we need, but, we’re still a good team, we’re still the champs and we got to play like that.”

One of Korver’s biggest adjustments is learning to play with James, one of the game’s most gifted passers. Korver regretted missing a 3-pointer in Golden State after James nearly fell before feeding him in the corner.

”He whipped it behind his back right at my head,” Korver said. ”I was like, `Wow, I have the ball and I’m open.’ I hesitated and I missed the shot. That’s what he creates. He’s got an incredible feel for the game. It’s good to be on the other side of the ball with him.”

The Cavs are just 1-3 since Korver joined them, but he’s confident better days are ahead.

”I see where we’re going,” he said. ”I see how it’s all going to come together. No one around here is panicking.”

CLEVELAND (AP) The defending NBA champions just got a whole lot tougher to stop.

Two days after agreeing to the deal, the Cleveland Cavaliers completed a trade with Atlanta for Kyle Korver, one of the league’s best 3-point shooters, who will be able to spot up on the perimeter and wait for LeBron James to pass him the ball.

The Cavs sent forward Mike Dunleavy, guard Mo Williams, cash and a protected future first-round draft pick to the Hawks for Korver, a 14-year veteran whose ability to come off screens and deep range challenges defenses.

”It adds another dynamic piece to our team,” James said. ”Hell of a sharp shooter and just a great guy. Great professional, as you’ve seen over his career. A guy that’s played at a high level for a long time, has championship aspirations. And, he has another rocket launcher.”

The trade was agreed upon Thursday and completed Saturday.

”We are extremely pleased to be able to add a player and person the caliber of Kyle Korver to our Cavs family,” general manager David Griffin said. ”Among the most prolific and dynamic 3-point shooters in NBA history, a selfless, and team first competitor, Kyle brings all of the elements of Cavs DNA that we covet on and off the floor.”

The 35-year-old Korver is expected to help Cleveland offset the loss of J.R. Smith, who will be out until April after suffering a complex thumb fracture and undergoing surgery. The 6-foot-7 Korver has made 43 percent of his 3-pointers during his career and also has plenty of postseason experience.

With James, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love and Korver on the floor, defenses will have to decide who to guard. If Korver got open looks at the basket with Atlanta, he’ll have even more opportunities with the Cavs.

”I could only imagine him coming off those pin downs and whether he’s open or not, we’re telling him to shoot it,” Irving said after Friday’s win at Brooklyn. ”Every shooter that comes here, we tell them Bron’s statement: `If a guy’s not in your numbers, then you’re open.’ So I know he’ll pretty much enjoy that. We’re looking forward to getting to know who he is as a person and a teammate, and we’re going to integrate the best way we know how.”

While Korver enjoyed his time with Atlanta and will miss those friendships, he’s joining the team that eliminated him from the playoffs the past two seasons. Cleveland has swept Atlanta in each of the past two postseasons.

Korver has 72 hours to report to the Cavs and will still need to undergo a physical. It’s possible he could join them on Sunday in Phoenix, the first of five games out West for the Cavs, whose trip will conclude with a Jan. 16 matchup at Golden State.

Coach Tyronn Lue said he intends to bring Korver off the bench.

Griffin’s ability to pull off the trade helped the Cavs on a few fronts. It gave them more firepower and he was able to open up a roster spot by dealing Dunleavy, who was a disappointment in his first season for Cleveland, and Williams, who hasn’t played after saying he was retiring. By dumping him on Atlanta, Cleveland is also ridding itself of the rest of Williams’ $2.1 million salary and avoiding luxury tax issues.

The Cavs may not be done dealing, either. Griffin wants to add a veteran backup point guard, a spot Cleveland has needed to address since electing not to re-sign Matthew Dellavedova in free agency last summer. Rookie Kay Felder has improved but Cleveland needs more at the position.

”That’s the next step,” James said Friday in New York. ”You look at our league, most teams have three point guards. We only have two with Ky (Irving) and our rook in Kay. I think just having that security blanket. Every NFL team has three quarterbacks. We’ll see what happens, but, we’re happy with our team right now.”

Korver’s departure might not be the last for the Hawks, who aren’t the same team that won 60 games before losing to the Cavs in the 2015 Eastern Conference finals. Forward Paul Millsap’s name has been linked to trade speculation for weeks.

CLEVELAND (AP) Kyle Korver could soon be hoisting shots for the NBA champions.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are trying to finalize a deal to acquire Korver, one of the league’s elite 3-point shooters, in a trade from the Atlanta Hawks, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press on Thursday night.

The sides are closing in on a deal, but the particulars ”’are not clear,” said the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal has not been completed.

The Vertical first reported the potential swap.

Cleveland is in need of another outside shooting threat with J.R. Smith expected to be sidelined until the end of the regular season after undergoing surgery to repair a broken thumb. The 35-year-old Korver is a more than adequate replacement as he’s shot 43 percent from long range during his career and his 1,952 made 3s are the eighth most in league history.

Korver did not play in Thursday night’s game in New Orleans, and afterward said he had mixed emotions about a trade that may only need league approval before becoming official.

”There are a lot of heart ties to Atlanta for a lot of reasons,” said Korver, who spent five seasons with Atlanta after two in Chicago. ”A lot of friendships, relationships. That’s where I had my best basketball. … That’s where I had all my kids. So it’s hard to leave that behind.

”Obviously, it’s a great opportunity for me to go to Cleveland so I’m very excited about that part. But there are a lot of relationships that I care a lot about here and I’m going to miss.”

Cleveland has been looking to add to its roster after losing Smith and center Chris Andersen to a season-ending knee injury. The Cavs also have interest in acquiring a backup point guard, but bringing in another outside threat for LeBron James appears to be the priority.

Korver, who has been pursued by Cleveland as a free agent in the past, is making $5.2 million in the final year of a four-year, $24 million deal he signed with Atlanta in 2013.

Cavs general manager David Griffin has not been afraid to shake up his team in past Januarys.

Two years ago, he dealt guard Dion Waiters and acquired Smith, guard Iman Shumpert and center Timofey Mozgov in trades. And last year, he fired coach David Blatt despite a 30-11 start.

Korver isn’t the player he once was, but he may be an upgrade over forward Mike Dunleavy, who was signed in the offseason but hasn’t produced and could be on the trading block. Dunleavy dressed but was the only healthy player who didn’t get any time Wednesday night in a loss to Chicago even though the Cavs were missing stars Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love.

For the Hawks, moving Korver represents the latest in a series of roster decisions that has broken up the core of a squad that won 60 games and finished atop the Eastern Conference just two seasons ago.

Key players gone from that team include power forward Al Horford, who left for Boston as a free agent; small forward DeMarre Carroll, who signed with Toronto as a free agent; and guard Jeff Teague, who was traded to Indiana.

”Kyle was a big part of that, Al was a big part of that, Jeff was a big part of that, DeMarre was a big part of that, and all of them are gone,” Hawks forward Paul Millsap said. ”I’m still here, but a big part of our team that was here that’s gone right now. You can’t look back in the past.”

Millsap declined to say whether seeing all of those moves makes him wonder about his own future with the club.

”The Hawks are trying to do what’s best for them,” Korver said. ”The whole organization is completely different from when I came 4 1/2 years ago.

”If there wasn’t the emotional connection that I have to Atlanta and the Hawks’ organization it would be a different story. From a basketball perspective, (Cleveland) is a great, great fit for me and I know that.”

The Cavs play the Brooklyn Nets in New York on Friday night, the start of a six-game trip.

—

Korver has averaged nearly 28 minutes of action per game this season and has shot nearly 43 percent from 3-point range for his career. He was in uniform and participated in warm-ups as media reports that he could be traded began to circulate shortly before tip-off.

Hawks public relations officials said they were aware of media reports regarding Korver but could not confirm that the club was considering a trade and had no comment on why he was not playing.

Korver shook teammates’ hands during the final warm-up session before tip-off and spent the first half sitting on the bench, where he remained after the third quarter began.

ATLANTA (AP) – Hawks guard Kyle Korver will undergo his third surgery since March when a specialist removes loose bodies from his right elbow on Tuesday.

Korver had surgery for a broken nose three months ago and earlier this month surgeons repaired ligament damage in his right ankle.

The 34-year-old is still wearing a boot. He said last week that he expects to be ready by training camp, but the team said Monday that it’s too early to set a timetable.

Korver’s ankle was injured in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals when Cleveland guard Matthew Dellavedova dove for a loose ball against his leg.

Korver will have the elbow procedure in New York. He already was scheduled for a doctor’s visit for his ankle.

ATLANTA — Hawks shooting guard Kyle Korver will miss the remainder of the postseason after being diagnosed with a severe right ankle sprain.

The Hawks announced they would be without Korver after an MRI on Saturday confirmed the injury. He will visit a foot and ankle specialist to determine the best course of treatment.

“Obviously, it’s very, very unfortunate for Kyle,” Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said. “He’s such a big part of what we do. But there will be other people who will get opportunities. We expect to compete and get after it tomorrow in Game 3. I don’t think anybody is going to feel sorry for us.”

Korver injured the ankle in the third quarter Friday of Atlanta’s 94-82 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals.

The first-time All-Star suffered the injury when Cavaliers guard Matthew Dellavedova rolled into him while the two players were pursuing a loose ball.

“Injuries are such a big part of our league and a big part of the playoffs,” Budenholzer said. “Everyone has to deal with them, and we’re not any different. Of course you’d love to have everybody healthy and have your whole team and be at full speed. That’s the ideal, but you can’t spend too much time or frustration thinking about it, concerned about it. You’ve got to get your mind right. You’ve got to get your mind focused. The guys that are healthy, the guys that are available get ready to compete, get ready to get after it and go play a basketball game.”

The league leader in true shooting percentage at 69.9, Korver had his most productive season since being chosen late in the second round of the 2003 NBA draft. For much of the season, he maintained a 3-point shooting clip above 50 percent. He finished the season at 49.2 percent from beyond the arc with an average of 2.9 made 3-pointers per game, trailing only Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

But Korver’s production had dropped in the postseason, as the Hawks’ opponents schemed to reduce his shot attempts. A spot-up shooter who generally requires multiple screens from teammates to get open, Korver has been pursued doggedly by his primary defenders throughout the playoffs and often encounters a second defender hedging on the other side of the screen.

Korver finished Game 2 with 12 points on 4-for-11 shooting, including 2-for-6 from behind the 3-point line, in 32 minutes. In 14 games this postseason, he averaged 11.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 37.6 minutes per game.

Hawks forward DeMarre Carroll was a surprise starter in Game 2 after crumpling to the floor in Game 1 with a left knee sprain. Carroll entered Philips Arena with a limp and grimaced through warm-ups but ultimately played 34 minutes in Game 2, a team high. He finished with six points and three rebounds.

After the game, Carroll characterized himself as “not 100 percent” but said he “would’ve gone out there on one leg.”

“DeMarre made it through last night good,” Budenholzer said Sunday. “I think he’s still a little sore, but considering the circumstances, he made it through last night well, and we expect him to play tomorrow and we expect him to be good.”

Budenholzer’s options to replace Korver in the starting lineup include Kent Bazemore, Shelvin Mack, backup point guard Dennis Schroder, who has spent a fair amount of time sharing the backcourt with starter Jeff Teague, and little-used shooting guard John Jenkins.

“[Bazemore] is someone we’ll consider that has the potential to start,” Budenholzer said. “DeMarre and Baze have played together. We sub Baze in for Kyle usually pretty early in the first quarter, so they’ve played together a fair amount and they’ll probably have to play together more, whether it’s to start the game or not.”

According to ESPN Stats & Information, Korver entered Friday night’s game having traveled 2.7 miles per game in the postseason, fourth-most in the NBA. At 34, Korver is the oldest among the top 55 players in miles traveled.

When made aware of the statistics, Korver told ESPN on Friday before Game 3 that playing in perpetual motion is a natural byproduct of his game but said he wouldn’t cite fatigue as a factor in his struggles.

The Hawks, who trail the series 2-0, visit the Cavaliers in Cleveland on Sunday night in Game 3.

ATLANTA (AP) – Hawks guard Kyle Korver is done for the playoffs because of an ankle injury, another blow to a team already trailing Cleveland 2-0 in the Eastern Conference finals.

He has a severe high right ankle sprain, and a foot and ankle specialist will determine the course of treatment, the team said Saturday.

While diving for a loose ball, Cleveland’s Matthew Dellavedova slammed into the side of Korver’s right ankle late in the third quarter of Game 2 Friday night. Korver hobbled off the court to the locker room and didn’t return.

The Cavaliers won 94-82 and are home for Game 3 on Sunday night.

The 34-year-old Korver was selected for his first All-Star Game and for much of the season appeared on course to become the first player in NBA history to hit 90 percent of his free throws, 50 percent of his field goals and 50 percent of his 3-pointers.

But Korver slumped late in the season, missing out in all three categories. He continued to struggle in the playoffs as defenses clamped down, denying him many open looks. He was shooting just 39 percent and averaging 11.1 points.

The Hawks already were dealing with DeMarre Carroll’s sprained left knee. After being helped off the court in the series opener, he was able to play in Game 2 but clearly didn’t look at full speed, scoring only six points.

Atlanta, of course, won’t get much sympathy from the Cavaliers. Kevin Love is out for the playoffs with a shoulder injury and Kyrie Irving has lingering knee problems. The point guard didn’t play in Game 2, but the Cavaliers still romped behind LeBron James’ 30 points.

Heading to his locker to get dressed, Josh Smith griped a bit when told he would have to go to the podium for the second game in a row.

Then he smiled.

No way the Atlanta Hawks forward was getting out of those duties. Not after the way he played Monday night.

Smith scored a career playoff-best 29 points as the Hawks built a 17-point lead at halftime, then withstood an Indiana comeback to even the series with a 102-91 victory in Game 4.

“You da one, Smoove,” teammate Dahntay Jones said as he walked by Smith’s locker. “You da one.”

The one, indeed. After struggling much of the second half, the enigmatic Smith made every big play down the stretch. He swished a rare 3-pointer, came up with an offensive rebound to set up a 3 by Kyle Korver, and finished off a fast break with a right-handed dunk. Plus, he did another stout defensive job on Indiana star Paul George, who had to work for every one of his 21 points.

“When he plays like that,” Hawks guard Devin Harris said of Smith, “we’re a very good team.”

With George scoring 18 in the second half, many on very difficult shots, the Pacers made a game of it. But they couldn’t come all the way back from a 57-40 deficit at the break. Indiana got as close as four in the third quarter, and was within five numerous times in the final 10 minutes. But the Pacers expended so much energy getting back in the game they just didn’t have enough to complete the comeback.

Tied at two wins apiece, the teams return to Indianapolis for Game 5 on Wednesday night.

“This is going to be one heck of a series right now,” Pacers center Roy Hibbert said. “I thought we’d be able to at least split down here.”

Korver added 19 points off the bench, most of them coming on his specialty: the 3-pointer. He knocked down five from outside the arc, including the biggest one with 2:33 remaining after Al Horford threw up a wild shot that missed. Smith snatched one of his 11 rebounds and spotted Korver lurking all alone on the outside.

“Energy and effort,” Smith said. “If we play with those two words and play together — I take that back, make it three words — we’re a pretty good basketball team.”

Horford chipped in with 18 points, and Anthony Tolliver made all three of his shots from beyond the 3-point line, providing a big boost every time the Hawks needed one.

But it was Smith who made sure the Hawks got the game they absolutely had to have before going back on the road.

“Just his energy,” Horford said. “When he plays with that level of energy, it makes such a difference. I’m not saying he doesn’t do it all the time, but when he’s so engaged and doing the little things, it makes a big difference to us.”

Indiana was better offensively than Game 3 but still struggled to make shots, finishing at 38 percent on a 32-of-84 performance. George came alive after halftime, connecting three times from beyond the stripe, while every other starter was in double figures.

It wasn’t enough.

The Hawks beat Indiana for the 13th straight time at Phillips Arena, a streak that dates to 2006. But the Pacers can take solace with not having to win in Atlanta, as long as they take care of business on their home court.

“That’s a great Atlanta team over there,” George Hill said. “We knew it wasn’t going to be an easy series. We knew they weren’t going to lay down. It’s always tough for us to play here. It’s good we have two more games on our home court if necessary.”

Then again, Indiana must be wondering how the series got to this point after the Pacers dominated the first two games in their building, averaging 110 points and a 16-point margin of victory.

The Hawks turned the momentum with a 90-69 blowout in Game 3. They did enough good things in the first half and the closing minutes to get the series back where it started as they head back to the heartland.

“We contested pretty much every shot they took,” Smith said. “That’s what it’s going to take (to win at Indiana). ”

The Pacers played with much more effort than they did Saturday, but it didn’t matter in the second quarter. Not with the Hawks gunning away from the outside — they went 7 of 8 from 3-point range in the period — and running the court with so much abandon that coach Larry Drew had to call a 20-second timeout late in the first half just to allow his players to catch their breath.

Atlanta appeared on the way to a second straight blowout. Not so fast.

Indiana turned up the defensive pressure, while the Hawks began walking the ball up and the court and getting sloppy. The Pacers ripped off a 15-1 spurt that nearly wiped out an 18-point deficit, holding Atlanta without a field goal for a good chunk of the third quarter. After Horford’s dunk with 10:05 left in the period, the Hawks didn’t make another basket until Harris’ nifty dash from one end of the court to the other for a layup with 1:34 remaining.

“That was a real gutsy performance by our team,” Drew said.

Atlanta was able to stick with its big lineup after 7-foot center Johan Petro dashed back from Miami on a private jet sent by the team owners after witnessing the birth of his first child. Jacob Petro was born about 2 p.m. and his father hustled off to the airport, making it to Phillips Arena about two hours before tipoff.

If the birth had taken longer, Petro was planning to stay in south Florida. Instead, he played 22 minutes with hardly any sleep the past two days, contributing four points and eight rebounds.

Atlanta dealt with an old bugaboo in the second half: free throw shooting. At one point, the Hawks had made just 8 of 18 before Horford knocked down five of six to make the percentage look a little more respectable. Still, they finished 25 of 38 at the line, squandering a chance to put the Pacers away earlier.

Game notes

Smith appeared to be standing even farther behind the line than usual on free throws. It didn’t help his percentage, as he made 9 of 16. … Harris was late coming back out for the third quarter. Apparently suffering from dehydration, he took an IV in the locker room as a precaution before returning to the game midway through the period. … The Hawks’ bench outscored the Indiana reserves 30-19.
