The Baltimore Ravens look to continue their late-season charge toward a playoff spot when they host the New York Giants on Sunday.

The Ravens (9-5) are taking aim at a fourth straight victory as they navigate what is essentially a four-team derby to claim the three AFC wild-berths.

Baltimore sits outside the playoff race and will need some help over the final two weeks to land a spot. The Miami Dolphins are also 9-5 but hold the tiebreaker edge over Baltimore for the final spot.

“Being honest, we’re just going to let it take care of itself,” Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson said. “We’re not focused on the outside, or other teams and stuff like that. We’re focused on ourselves because we can’t peak too early and we can’t peak too soon at anything right now.

“We’ve just got to focus on the Giants because that’s a good team that we’re going to face on Sunday. It’s about finishing for us right now.”

Left tackle Orlando Brown Jr., who was named a Pro Bowler for the second time earlier this week, doesn’t want to hear anything about scenarios or how oddsmakers rate Baltimore’s chances.

“My focus is on the Giants and going out there and playing the best game of my career,” Brown said. “We understand the playoffs are there, and getting there is important. But it’s important that we win the next game.”

No disputes there as a loss to the Giants (5-9) would leave the Ravens in a dire situation heading into the final week.

New York is one game behind the Washington Football Team in the NFC East but has scored just 13 total points while losing its last two games.

Colt McCoy filled in at quarterback in the 20-6 loss to the Cleveland Browns in Week 15, but the Giants are hopeful starter Daniel Jones will return Sunday.

Jones is dealing with hamstring and ankle injuries and was a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice. Coach Joe Judge said he would like to see how Jones progresses before making a decision.

“Look, in a perfect world, I’d love to have an answer as soon as possible,” Judge said. “I’m not going to go ahead and set a time mark on this. But we’ll come out of Friday, Friday after practice, with some kind of an answer.”

Jones said he is itching to play after sitting out two of the past three weeks. He sees time running out on the season and feels the urgency.

“I’m doing everything I can to get back out there,” Jones said. “Every week you want to play. I did all I could last week, and that’s certainly my approach this week. I’m working as hard as I can. I really do want to be out there with the guys and go after a win on Sunday.”

Tight end Evan Engram (calf) also was limited on Wednesday. Engram, who has a team-leading 54 receptions, was named a Pro Bowler for the first time earlier this week.

Standout linebacker Blake Martinez (128 tackles) leads the New York defense, and the big question on his mind is how to stop Jackson, who has passed for 2,461 yards and 21 touchdowns while also rushing for 828 yards and seven scores.

“Oh yeah, he’s one of those special guys, and I think everyone knows it,” Martinez said. “It’s one of those things you obviously as a competitor, for me, you want to go against guys like that. But it just adds the extra heightened awareness to make sure that you’re extremely perfect in all fundamental aspects of your game going into that.”

Baltimore’s defensive stars include cornerback Marlon Humphrey, who leads the NFL with eight forced fumbles and was named a Pro Bowler for the second time.

Defensive end Calais Campbell (calf) and cornerback Marcus Peters (calf) are among the nine Ravens who missed practice on Wednesday.

No matter who is cleared to play, Baltimore’s focus will remain on itself as it looks to notch a pivotal victory.

“The focus really for us is going to be on taking care of our business,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. “It doesn’t matter what anybody else does if we don’t take care of our job. Our job is to win. We’ve got to find a way to win this week. We can control how we play.”

The Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants both find themselves facing the same scenario heading into their regular-season finale on Sunday afternoon in East Rutherford, N.J. — win and wait.

The victor of their contest at MetLife Stadium will keep its NFC East Division title hopes alive for at least a few more hours. But both teams need a victory by the Philadelphia Eagles over the visiting Washington Football Team on Sunday night to clinch the crown and become just the fifth team since the NFL-AFL merger to enter the playoffs with a losing record, and only the third during a 16-game season.

The Giants (5-10), who bring a three-game losing streak into the contest, also could become the first team to advance to the postseason with a 6-10 record. Both Seattle (7-9, 2010) and Carolina (7-8-1, 2014) made the playoffs with losing marks while Cleveland and Detroit also qualified for a special 16-team playoff tournament with 4-5 records during the strike-shortened 1982 season.

Here’s the kicker. Providing they get an assist from the Eagles, the winner of Sunday’s elimination game not only gets to claim the NFC East crown but also will go into the playoffs as the No. 4 seed and will likely host Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild-card round.

First-year Giants coach Joe Judge made it clear during a Zoom call with reporters that he wanted his team to concentrate on trying to snap its seven-game losing streak to the Cowboys (6-9) and not the possibility of playing in the postseason.

“Our focus still needs to remain on the Cowboys,” Judge said. “That’s the priority this week. We remain focused on improving as a team. We have a division rival coming up ahead, it’s a big game for us. Obviously, there are implications. As I’ve said all along, those games now don’t exist. Until I can talk about any kind of opponent coming up beyond who we’re playing, there’s not a conversation to be had. Our focus remains on the Cowboys.”

“I’m just focused on Dallas,” added center Nick Gates. “We have to beat Dallas first to be able to even think about the playoffs. After we beat them, we have to see if Washington wins. I’m just focused on Dallas and trying to give ourselves the best opportunity.”

The Cowboys bring a three-game winning streak into the contest including a 37-17 victory over the Eagles last Sunday as Andy Dalton threw for 377 yards and three touchdowns and Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 105 yards on 19 carries.

“A win is a win. No matter how you get there, a win is a win,” Elliott said when asked about the possibility of winning the NFC East with a losing record. “So, I mean, if we win the division at 7-9, it’s the same as winning it at 14-2.”

Besides, many wrote the Cowboys off after losing starting quarterback Dak Prescott to a season-ending injury in the first meeting with the Giants in Week 5. Dalton came off the bench to finish 9 of 11 for 111 yards and lead a game-winning drive capped by Greg Zuerlein’s 34-yard field goal as time expired in the 37-34 victory.

“You go into the playoffs with a 0-0 record, so I mean, winning the division, it doesn’t matter what the record is.” Elliott, who needs 63 rushing yards to hit the 1,000-mark, said. “If you win it, you win it.”

Four Cowboys — safeties Darian Thompson (concussion) and Donovan Wilson (illness), linebacker Leighton Vander Esch (ankle) and cornerback Rashard Robinson (knee) — didn’t practice Wednesday while corner Chidobe Awuzie (hamstring, groin) and safety Xavier Woods (ribs) were limited. All-Pro guard Zack Martin, on injured reserve with a calf injury, and defensive back Steven Parker (ankle) were both designated for return but owner Jerry Jones said on his radio show it was “unlikely” Martin, who didn’t practice Wednesday, would play Sunday.

Wide receiver Golden Tate (calf) and fullback Eli Penny (illness) both did not practice Wednesday for the Giants but quarterback Daniel Jones (hamstring) was a full participant as was corner Darnay Holmes (knee). Tight end Evan Engram (calf), safety Jabrill Peppers (ankle) and wide receiver Sterling Shepard (ribs) were limited.

Buffalo allowed the first 16 points in its season opener before rallying in the second half to post a 17-16 road victory over the New York Jets.

Josh Allen orchestrated a pair of touchdown drives in the fourth quarter, scoring on a 3-yard scramble to get the Bills within 16-10 before connecting with John Brown for a 38-yard TD with three minutes remaining. Allen’s late heroics helped atone for his earlier play, as he became the first NFL quarterback to commit four turnovers (two interceptions, two fumbles) in a victory since 2013. Unlike Buffalo, the Giants got off to a good start in their opener before things went downill in their 35-17 loss at Dallas. New York struggled against the pass, allowing 16.2 yards per completion, and surrendered seven overall plays of 20 or more yards – including three for at least 35.

ABOUT THE BILLS (1-0): Rookie linebacker Tyrel Dodson will have to wait a while to make his NFL debut as he received a six-game suspension from the league for violating its personal conduct policy. The 21-year-old from Texas A&M, who pled guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct on Wednesday after facing three charges for an incident involving his girlfriend in May, was on the commissioner’s exempt list for Week 1 and won’t be eligible to return to the team until Oct. 28. Brown proved to be a big-play threat for Buffalo last week, making a 28-yard catch to go with his game-winning touchdown reception.

ABOUT THE GIANTS (0-1): New York’s defense could be in for another difficult day, as Buffalo recorded six plays of 20 or more yards last week, but defensive coordinator James Bettcher has confidence in his players’ ability to bounce back. “I love the character of this group because there is no crumbling at the knees,” he told reporters. “There is no pointing fingers, there’s a lot of ownership and there is a lot of accountability in this group.” With wide receiver Sterling Shepard (six catches, 42 yards) in concussion protocol, more may be expected of tight end Evan Engram, who set career highs last week with 11 receptions and 116 yards.

The 21-year-old reached triple digits against the Redskins (38 rushing, 73 receiving) in October and would match Edgerrin James (1999) and move within one of Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson (1983) should he repeat the feat on Sunday. “Not really,” Barkley said when asked about individual records. “You’re just so stuck in the moment, stuck in the season, trying to get better every single day.” Eli Manning, who threw for season lows in yards (170) and completion percentage (54.3) versus the Bears, was sacked seven times in the first meeting with Washington and intercepted twice by D.J. They got by in Week 12 with backup Chase Daniel at quarterback and are playing a waiting game on starter Mitchell Trubisky, who was out with a shoulder injury and is considered day-to-day. “It’s going to continue to be one of those day-to-day things with him,” coach Matt Nagy told reporters Wednesday. “I don’t know his exact pain tolerance or level right now. Under fire much of the season as New York careens toward its fifth losing season in the last six, Manning has the best completion percentage of his career (69.1) and is on pace for 4,499 yards, which would represent the second-highest total of his career.

ABOUT THE BEARS (8-3): Daniel completed 27-of-37 passes for 230 yards and two TDs against the Lions after taking limited reps in practice, a scenario the team would be able to avoid this week with the veteran out of Missouri working with the first team all week. “I think that it could definitely help him out,” Nagy told reporters of Daniel having a full week of practice. “If that’s the route we end up going, he’s going to get more reps versus what he went through (last week). That was hard. That was all mental. You go into the game and now we’re expecting guys to be throwing great accurate passes all over the field, and I don’t know if that’s necessarily realistic.” Tarik Cohen tied for the team lead with seven catches and had one TD reception from Daniels, but he was also part of a rushing attack that gained a season-low 38 yards on 15 carries.

ABOUT THE GIANTS (3-8): New York’s game plan has revolved around an effort to limit the damage done by Bears linebacker Kahlil Mack, who made his presence felt against the Giants last year while still a member of the Oakland Raiders, recording a sack, a forced fumble and a recovery. “He’s as good as advertised,” rookie running back Saquon Barkley told the media of Mack. “The only thing I can say is he’s good as advertised. He’s probably the best defensive player in the league. He’s an active player, he’s big, fast, strong. He’s everything you want in an outside linebacker.” Barkley has 294 total yards and five TDs over the last two weeks and enters the week ranked fourth in the NFL with 829 yards on the ground.

The San Francisco 49ers never expected to have a quarterback controversy this season. The New York Giants were hoping they wouldn’t, either. Yet, both teams have unsettled situations at the most important position in the game as Nick Mullens prepares to make his second career start when the 49ers host Eli Manning and the skidding Giants on Monday night.

New York has dropped five in a row and is tied for the worst record in football, but first-year coach Pat Shurmur is sticking with two-time Super Bowl champion Manning. “We got to get some wins,” Manning told reporters. “We got to get going, and everybody wants it. The team needs it, for the morale and for just the hard work and everything we put in.” Mullens was forced into the lineup due to injury but played brilliantly in his NFL debut to help San Francisco end a six-game slide in a 34-3 rout of Oakland on Nov. 1. “I think everyone saw the way he played. I don’t think it was too tough a decision,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters. “Our team played really well, and he played well. It was gonna be hard not to give him that opportunity.”

Beckham, who leads the team with 61 catches, went into last week’s bye with back-to-back performances of at least eight catches and 136 yards, giving him five 100-yard efforts on the season. Barkley has nine receptions in each of his last three games and 58 on the season, but he has been limited to 38 and 43 yards rushing in the past two contests. A sign of the offensive woes: The Giants have allowed 20 points four times and lost each game.

ABOUT THE 49ERS (2-7): Injuries to Jimmy Garoppolo (torn ACL) and backup C.J. Beathard (concussion) opened the door for Mullens, and the undrafted free agent out of Southern Mississippi responded by throwing for 262 yards and three touchdowns while posting a 151.9 passer rating. The victory over Oakland came at a cost as running back Raheem Mostert fractured his forearm after rushing for 86 yards on seven carries, including a 52-yard touchdown. Tight end George Kittle continues to be San Francisco’s best offensive threat with at least four receptions in all but one game, while the wide receivers have been spotty at best. The 49ers rank 12th in the league against the run, allowing 102.8 yards per game.

Quarterback Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons withstood a late comeback to end a three-game slide last weekend in what may have been a season-saving victory. That’s pretty much the same position the reeling New York Giants and the much-maligned Eli Manning find themselves in when they head to Atlanta to take on the Falcons on Monday Night Football.

One season after finishing 3-13 and winding up with prize running back Saquon Barkley with the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft, New York is off to a 1-5 start amid growing cries that Manning needs to be yanked from the starting lineup. “I know he’s the punching bag right now,” Giants co-owner John Mara told reporters earlier this week. “But a lot of guys need to play better when you’re 1-5.” Atlanta has plenty of issues of its own — namely injuries — but still has Ryan and favorite target Julio Jones, the subject of pregame hype with New York’s Odell Beckham Jr. on the opposite sideline. “In our league today, there are a handful of receivers who garner that special attention,” Falcons coach Dan Quinn said. “It just so happens that two of them are matched up this week. They are different players, but really effective in their own right.”

ABOUT THE GIANTS (1-5): Barkley has lived up to his pre-draft hype, rushing for 130 yards and a touchdown and catching nine balls for 99 yards in a 34-13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 11. Barkley has a chance to make history against the Falcons and join Kansas City’s Kareem Hunt as the only players to pile up at least 100 yards from scrimmage in seven consecutive games to begin their career. Manning continues to have trouble connected with Beckham and has averaged 6.5 yards or fewer per pass attempt in four of six games. New York’s defense has allowed 27 points per game and is tied for last in the league with 7.0 sacks.

ABOUT THE FALCONS (2-4): Ryan is third in the NFL with 1,956 passing yards and has 12 touchdowns and zero interceptions over the past four games after throwing for 340 yards and three scores in last week’s win over Tampa Bay. Jones had 10 catches for 144 yards against the Buccaneers and is second in the league with 708 yards, but he has yet to find the end zone after scoring only three touchdowns in 2017. Oddsmakers currently have the CAROLINA listed as -6.5 point favorites versus the NY GIANTS, while the game’s total is sitting at 44.

The Carolina Panthers are rested, relatively healthy and feature some potentially impactful new faces as they prepare to host the New York Giants on Sunday. After defeating Cincinnati 31-21 in Week 3, the Panthers enjoyed a bye week before beginning a stretch in which they play three straight NFC East teams.

The Panthers’ organization made some news during the off week by signing safety Eric Reid, who was the first player to join Colin Kaepernick in kneeling during the national anthem and has a grievance filed with the league. “He’s a great player. We have great players in this locker room, and we’ve accepted him with open arms,” quarterback Cam Newton told reporters of Reid, a one-time Pro Bowler with 10 interceptions in 70 career games. “For him to be on our team is a great thing.” The Giants have been unable to get their offense going and are coming off a 33-18 home loss to New Orleans last week. They’ve lost their last two games against the Panthers in 2013 and 2015, giving up 38 points both times.

ABOUT THE GIANTS (1-3): New York enters the week ranked 29th in scoring (18.3 points per game) and star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has gone without a touchdown while averaging a career-low 10.7 yards per catch. “It’s not all about just throwing it deep every play; that’s not the answer to our solution,” quarterback Eli Manning told reporters. “I know that’s what everybody wants to do. It’s an easy thing to say, ‘Yeah, we’ll throw it deep and all of our problems will be fixed.’ It’s still about finding completions and when you do throw it down the field, completing it.” Rookie running back Saquon Barkley has been a spark with 260 rushing yards, 193 receiving yards and four total TDs.

ABOUT THE PANTHERS (2-1): Newton has five passing TDs and two more on the ground over the last two games and he’s completing 67.4 percent of his passes, well over his career mark of 58.7. He and running back Christian McCaffrey have combined for 407 yards on the ground for the NFL’s top rushing attack (166 yards per game). Tight end Greg Olsen (foot) will miss his third straight game but has increased activity in practice with the goal of returning in Week 6 at Washington, and wide receiver Curtis Samuels (chest) is expected to make his season debut Sunday.
