LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) Christian Barrett totaled 17 points while pulling down 10 rebounds as Lamar took its first victory at McNeese’s new home court, beating the Cowboys 84-75 on Saturday.
Nick Garth and Jordan Hunter added 16 points apiece for Lamar (11-11, 4-5 Southland Conference), which has won three of its last four games. Hunter also dished out eight assists. Josh Nzeakor chipped in 12 points.
Garth nailed a 3-pointer to post Lamar’s first points at the H&HP Complex as the Cardinals took an early 18-15 lead. McNeese battled back to go up 35-31 at the break after James Harvey drilled a 3 at the buzzer. Lamar opened the second half on a 17-7 run to go ahead 48-42 just over five minutes into the second period. McNeese stayed close but could never close the gap in this 104th meeting between the schools.
Roydell Brown, who had 10 points in the first half, finished with 26 for McNeese (7-14, 3-5). It was his fourth straight game with over 20 points.
