2019 FCS vs. FBS: Patriot LeagueBy CRAIG HALEY

(STATS) – Since the addition of football scholarships across the Patriot League, its teams have had a better chance of knocking off FBS programs.

It’s still not an easy assignment for the league with Fordham’s win at Army West Point in 2015 the most recent.

As FCS programs seek to make their mark again this year, here’s a look at the games involving Patriot League teams:

The Matchups (5) – Bucknell: Temple (Aug. 31); Colgate: Air Force (Aug. 31); Fordham: Ball State (Sept. 7); Holy Cross: Navy (Aug. 31) and Syracuse (Sept. 28)

Glamour Games – Holy Cross at Navy (Aug. 31) and at Syracuse (Sept. 28): The Crusaders have two games on the bigger stage. They’ve never faced Navy before and trail Syracuse 23-5 in the all-time series heading into their first matchup since 1973.

Upset Alert – Colgate at Air Force (Aug. 31): Defending Patriot League champ Colgate went 10-2 and reached the FCS quarterfinals in its best season under coach Dan Hunt last year. With this game, the sixth-year coach will have faced all three FBS military academies – also Army West Point and Navy – during his tenure.

Notable – Georgetown, Lafayette and Lehigh are not playing FBS opponents this year. Lafayette has future matchups planned at Navy (2020) and Air Force (2021). … New Bucknell coach Dave Cecchini will make his debut against Temple. The two schools met in every season from 1927 to 1970 with the winner receiving “The Old Shoe” trophy. … Fordham and Ball State will meet for the first time.
