(STATS) – In past years, Austin Peay had little reason to include FCS playoff dates when it released its football schedule, but the feeling was different Wednesday when the Governors announced their 2018 games.
Austin Peay has set an 11-game schedule with the hope for more in the postseason, one year after the Govs posted an incredible turnaround.
They overcame a 29-game losing streak and losses in 46 of 47 games to finish 8-4 under Will Healy, the winner of the STATS FCS Eddie Robinson Award as the national coach of the year. But the Ohio Valley Conference runner-up was disappointed when it didn’t receive an at-large bid to the playoffs.
The Govs will seek a different ending this season. After opening on Sept. 1 at 2017 FBS national runner-up Georgia, they’ll play 10 FCS opponents, including five at home – Presbyterian (Sept. 8) and conference foes Tennessee State (Oct. 6), Tennessee Tech (Oct. 13), Eastern Kentucky (Nov. 3) and Murray State (Nov. 17).
