Dayton’s 2018 schedule particularly strong on road

(STATS) – The return of a veteran squad is pivotal for Dayton in facing a competitive 2018 schedule.

The Flyers announced their 11 matchups on Friday – five at home and six on the road. They’ll rotate home and away games in the Pioneer Football League.

In addition to hosting Robert Morris to open the season on Sept. 1, Dayton will face PFL members Davidson (Sept. 22), Valparaiso (Oct. 6), Drake (Oct. 20) and Morehead State (Nov. 10) at Welcome Stadium.

The road portion of the schedule is more daunting.

“Our nonconference schedule puts us on the road two of the three by going to Duquesne and Southeast Missouri,” coach Rick Chamberlin said. “Then as always, the PFL schedule will be tough, but having to play Marist, (defending champion) San Diego, Butler and Jacksonville on the road will make it an even bigger challenge.”

Dayton will return 15 starters and 47 players from a 5-6 squad, but one that suffered four of its losses by a combined 15 points.
