(STATS) – Fullback continues to be the Pro Bowl position of choice for former FCS players.
The New England Patriots’ James Develin and the San Francisco 49ers’ Kyle Juszczyk – a pair of former Ivy League players – were the AFC and NFC selections, respectively, for the Pro Bowl on Sunday in Orlando, Florida.
Develin, in his eighth NFL season, has been replaced on the AFC squad because the Patriots are playing in the Super Bowl.
Juszczyk, a fifth-year pro, is making his second straight Pro Bowl appearance, but last year he was the AFC fullback as a member of the Baltimore Ravens. Last year’s NFC fullback also was a former FCS player, Mike Tolbert from Coastal Carolina.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, recovering from a torn ACL suffered in early December, was selected to the NFC roster this season. The second-year pro from FCS power North Dakota State has been replaced because of the injury, but his Eagles have advanced to the Super Bowl as well.
