Furman kicks off spring practice

(STATS) – Don’t tell anybody in the Furman football program that spring is two months away.

On Friday, less than three weeks after the FCS season concluded, Furman became the first team in the subdivision to kick off spring practice.

Talk about getting the jump, the Paladins opened the first of 15 practices at 6 a.m. All the work leads up to their annual intrasquad scrimmage, tentatively scheduled for Feb. 23 at Paladin Stadium.

Coach Clay Hendrix’s squad has 73 players, including three early signees who enrolled earlier this month, taking part in spring practice. The group includes 16 starters who are returning from a 6-4 squad that won six of its final seven games to claim a share of the Southern Conference title.
