ATLANTA (AP) Georgia State has fired coach Trent Miles after less than four years on the job.

The school announced the decision on Sunday. The Panthers have a 2-8 record this season and a 9-38 mark during Miles’ tenure. He led the program to its first postseason appearance last year in the inaugural AutoNation Cure Bowl, but the Panthers regressed this fall.

The school said assistant coach Tim Lappano will be the interim coach for the season’s final two games.

Georgia State athletics director Charlie Cobb said in a statement that Miles ”has always been a true professional and great leader for our program, but we felt the time was right to make a change.”
