(STATS) – James Madison’s quarterback competition is still going strong heading into the Dukes’ annual spring game, set for Saturday at Bridgeforth Stadium in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
Who will replace quarterback Bryan Schor is the big question surrounding the three-time defending CAA Football champ’s offseason. Schor had a 29-4 career record as a starter.
Junior Cole Johnson, the backup the last two seasons, junior transfer Ben DiNucci from Pittsburgh and redshirt freshman Gage Moloney have been splitting reps with the first-team offense, perhaps with Johnson and DiNucci holding a slight edge over Moloney.
The coaches plan to assess the competition following the intrasquad scrimmage, which pits the offense versus the defense. Points can be scored by both units based on play outcomes.
“It’s going to be interesting to see,” third-year coach Mike Houston said. “We won the national championship the year before last. We came within four points, one play this year. There’s a pretty sour taste in everybody’s mouth right now.”
