Lawson, Santiago stand out in NFLPA Game

(STATS) – Rhode Island quarterback JaJuan Lawson was a standout as the American team beat the National squad 10-7 for its first win in the 8th annual NFLPA Collegiate Bowl Saturday in Pasadena, California.

Lawson threw a 22-yard touchdown to Colorado’s Juwann Winfree midway through the third quarter to tie the game at 7. Wisconsin’s Rafael Gagianone kicked a 43-yard field goal with 4 seconds left in the quarter to provide the winning margin.

Lawson completed 7 of 11 passes for 73 yards. He also had seven carries for 24 yards.

Several other FCS-level players stood out for coach Chuck Pagano. North Dakota running back John Santiago carried the ball three times for 36 yards and caught a game-high five passes for 39 yards, while Incarnate Word linebacker Silas Stewart had an interception.

For the Nationals, Northern Arizona wide receiver Emmanuel Butler had three receptions for 46 yards and Chattanooga’s Isaiah Mack collected a sack.
