New Mexico’s suspension of coach Bob Davie to start Saturday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) New Mexico coach Bob Davie will begin serving a 30-day school suspension Saturday, following multiple investigations into treatment of players and interfering with possible criminal or misconduct cases involving members of the team.

New Mexico President Chaouki Abdallah said in a statement Thursday that Davie’s unpaid suspension will end March 18. Athletic director Eddie Nunez will determine coaching assignments while Davie is suspended.

The suspension was announced last week and the university released the findings of two investigations. The second report could not corroborate the most serious claims against Davie, which included allegations that he told players in an team meeting to ”get some dirt” on a student who had reported that a player had raped her. Davie has since denied that claim.
