(STATS) – Stetson’s struggling FCS program is hoping some improved play throughout last season will carry over into its 11-game 2018 schedule.
The Hatters will play six games at home under sixth-year coach Roger Hughes. They finished 2-9 last year and have yet to have a winning season since returning to football in 2013.
“I’m very much looking forward to the 2018 season. Quite frankly, I didn’t want last season to end. During the second half of the season last year, we won two games and three of the losses were on the last play or last series of the game, basically,” Hughes said. “We were much more competitive, we had a very young team and once the guys got some experience under their belt, they showed a lot of good things, and I wish we could have had a few more games to help them really get over the hump and see the wins show up with all their effort.”
Stetson will open the season by hosting two NAIA members Point (Sept. 1) and Waldorf (Sept. 8) for the first time. Within the Pioneer Football League, the Hatters will host Marist (Sept. 22), Jacksonville (Oct. 20), Morehead State (Nov. 3) and Valparaiso (Nov. 17).
