(STATS) – It takes an exceptional FCS team to gain an invitation to the White House, so President Donald Trump probably knew everybody’s answer on Monday when he asked the national champion North Dakota State Bison whether they could beat FBS champ Clemson.
Trump celebrated North Dakota State’s dynasty during a special ceremony in the East Room. The Bison, who defeated Eastern Washington 38-24 on Jan. 5, became the first FCS champion to visit the White House since Youngstown State, which was coming off a third title in four seasons, in 1995.
The Bison have won a record seven FCS titles, all in the last eight years.
North Dakota Sen. John Hoeven helped convince the president to extend the invitation to the Bison, who were led by new coach Matt Entz. Quarterback Easton Stick, part of the large contingent of nearly 110 players, presented a green and yellow No. 45 jersey to the 45th president.
As he did with Clemson during a visit in January, Trump treated the Bison to fast food for lunch.
Vice President Mike Pence also attended the ceremony. Afterward, the Bison were scheduled to tour the East Wing before heading to the Capitol, the Lincoln Memorial and other monuments.
