Youngstown State, Pelini agree to contract extension

(STATS) – Youngstown State coach Bo Pelini has signed a three-year contract extension through the 2021 season.

Pelini confirmed the extension with The Vindicator of Youngstown on Monday. It is pending final approval from school president Jim Tressel.

Pelini, a 51-year-old Youngstown native, has a 27-22 record in four seasons at YSU, leading the 2016 team to an FCS national runner-up finish. Last year, the Penguins were 4-7 overall and 3-5 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.

Previously, he was 67-27 in seven-plus seasons at Nebraska.

Pelini’s brother Carl returned to the YSU coaching staff as assistant head coach earlier this winter.
