EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) The Edmonton Oilers have signed defenseman Oscar Klefbom to a seven-year contract extension on Sunday.
Klefbom had 20 points, including two goals, in 60 games last season with Edmonton. He ranked second among Oilers defensemen in points (20) and time on ice (21:59), setting career highs in both categories. He also ranked third among Oilers defensemen in blocked shots (102).
The 22-year-old also spent part of the 2014-15 season with the American Hockey League’s Oklahoma City Barons, posting eight points in nine games.
Klefbom has spent his career with the Oilers since being selected by Edmonton in the first round (19th overall) in the 2011 draft. He has 23 points (three goals) in 77 NHL games.
The Karlstad, Sweden, native has also represented his country several times internationally, most recently at the 2015 world championship. He also captured a gold medal with Sweden at the 2012 world juniors.
