Penguins, Lightning off to chippy start in conference finalsBy WILL GRAVES

PITTSBURGH (AP) The Pittsburgh Penguins and Tampa Bay Lightning got off to a chippy start in the Eastern Conference finals.

There were questionable hits in Tampa Bay’s 3-1 win, including a five-minute major penalty given to Lightning forward Ryan Callahan after he sent Pittsburgh defenseman Kris Letang headfirst into the boards. The league declined to pursue any further action against Callahan on Saturday, clearing him to play in Game 2 Monday.

The Lightning also received positive news about goalie Ben Bishop. The Vezina Trophy finalist left in the first period Friday with a left-leg injury. Coach Jon Cooper said Saturday ”everything has been really good so far” but declined to say if Bishop will be available Monday.

Backup Andrei Vasilevskiy made 25 stops in Bishop’s absence.
