Vatrano, Bergeron lead Bruins past Penguins, 6-2

PITTSBURGH (AP) Frank Vatrano scored three goals for his first career hat trick and Patrice Bergeron scored twice as the Boston Bruins beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-2 Friday night to sweep the teams’ home-and-away series.

Loui Eriksson also scored for Boston, while Ryan Spooner added three assists and Brad Marchand added two.

Conor Sheary – Vatrano’s college teammate at UMass – got his first two NHL points with a goal and an assist, and Trevor Daley scored his first goal with the Penguins, who are 0-3 since Mike Sullivan replaced Mike Johnston as the team’s head coach last weekend.

Washington’s Alex Ovechkin and T.J. Oshie both finished with two goals and two assists, and Marcus Johansson got the tiebreaking goal with 5:44 left to help the Capitals rally from three goals down and beat the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Capitals now have won four straight games overall and seven straight at home.

Johansson broke a 3-3 deadlock with his power-play goal from the right side after a pass from Oshie. Ovechkin also got an assist.

Ovechkin scored the team’s other two power-play goals. Oshie added an empty-net goal. Nicklas Backstrom earned his 600th career point with an assist on the final Oshie goal.

Alex Killorn, Andrej Sustr and Steven Stamkos each scored once for Tampa Bay.

In Ottawa, Ontario, Bobby Ryan had a goal and an assist, and Craig Anderson made 31 saves as the Senators downed the San Jose Sharks for their fourth straight home win.

Ottawa has won just two of its past five games. Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Chris Wideman and Erik Karlsson also scored.

Joe Thornton and Brent Burns had the goals for the Sharks, and Alex Stalock made 31 saves.

The Vancouver Canucks edged the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 after Linden Vey, making his season debut, scored in the seventh round of the shootout.

Jared McCann, Sven Baertschi and Radim Vrbata scored in regulation for the Canucks, who were without injured captain Henrik Sedin. Ryan Miller had 25 saves through overtime.

Joakim Andersson, Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg scored for the Red Wings, and Jimmy Howard had 37 saves.

Winnipeg’s Bryan Little scored two first-period goals and Blake Wheeler had four assists as the Jets beat the New York Rangers 5-2, while Roberto Luongo made 24 saves and Willie Mitchell scored 4:09 into the third period as the Florida Panthers beat the Carolina Hurricanes 2-0 for their third straight win.
