The complete Champions League draw set the following quarterfinal matchups: Real Madrid vs. Galatasaray, Malaga vs. Borussia Dortmund, PSG vs. Barcelona and Bayern Munich vs. Juventus.

Barcelona, which came from 2-0 down in the first leg of the last round to beat AC Milan 4-2 on aggregate, will face its former striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Ibrahimovic is suspended for the first-leg match.

David Beckham, playing for Paris Saint-Germain, is the only English player left in the competition.

Bayern Munich’s reward for seeing off Arsenal is a meeting with Celtic’s conquerors Juventus, considered to be the most competitive matchup in the draw.

Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho is aiming to become the first manager to win the Champions League with three different clubs, having achieved it previously with Porto and Inter Milan.

His side saw off Manchester United in the first knockout round and also qualified from a tough group comprising the domestic league champions of Spain, Germany, England and Holland.

Steve McManaman, a former Liverpool and Real midfielder who carried out the draw for UEFA, said: “Real have had to do it the hard way so far — they have beaten a lot of good teams.”

Galatasaray’s squad includes two former Mourinho favourites — ex-Chelsea striker Didier Drogba and former Inter midfielder Wesley Sneijder.

Unlike in previous seasons, UEFA did not also make the draw for the semifinal pairings at the same time. That draw will now take place next month.kept apart in the draw for the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal draw Friday.

Messi scored in the fifth and 40th minutes, moving into sole possession of second on the Champions League career scoring list with 58 goals. David Villa put Barcelona ahead in the aggregate series in the 55th minute, and left back Jordi Alba sealed the win when he scored in the second minute of stoppage time.

AC Milan, a seven-time winner of Europe’s top club tournament, won the first leg in Italy on Feb. 20 and nearly got a valuable away goal in the 38th minute, but 18-year-old forward M’baye Niang hit a post with an open shot on a counterattack. If he had tied the game 1-1, Barcelona would have needed at least three more goals at that point to advance because away goals are a tiebreaker.

Messi, the four-time FIFA Player of the Year, passed Ruud van Nistelrooy (56) on the Champions League scoring list and trails only Raul Gonzalez (71). With his 18th multigoal game of the season, Messi increased his season goals total to 53.

In the other match, Galatasaray won 3-2 at Schalke to advance on 4-3 aggregate and reach the quarterfinals for the first time since 2001.

Real Madrid, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain also are in Friday’s draw. In the final second-round matches Wednesday, Arsenal tries to overturn a 3-1 deficit at Bayern Munich and Porto goes to Malaga with a 1-0 lead.

Cazorla opened the scoring in the sixth minute, but Villa came back strongly and equalized through Andreas Weimann after the break.

Arsenal threw everything at Villa keeper Brad Guzan, but the Gunners could not find a way past until Cazorla found the net with five minutes remaining — saving his manager from another ear-bashing from the supporters who have started to doubt whether the Frenchman is the right man to lead the club forward.

Many had questioned whether Wenger had lost the plot this week with a bizarre news conference rant sandwiched in between two disappointing defeats to Blackburn and Bayern Munich.

Some of those doubters will not have been convinced by this performance. Wenger’s men were often sloppy in possession, looked edgy at the back, and their propensity to want to walk the ball in to the net caused a huge amount of frustration among the home crowd at a sparsely populated Emirates Stadium.

After the match, Wenger took aim at his critics once more. When asked whether these had been “dreadful times”, Wenger replied: “Of course. But you do your job and focus on the next game. That’s what I did.

“I’m not 30 years in this job at the top level to be destroyed by people saying I don’t know what I’m doing. (If I was) I would have stopped this job a long time ago. But we have responsibilities and have to stand up and get the team ready to fight.”

Whatever criticisms are aimed at Wenger — whether it be his match tactics or his transfer policy — there is no doubt he possesses players who can turn the game with a bit of magic. Cazorla is certainly of them.

The Spaniard, who now has 11 goals for the club, drifted in and out of the game, but he took his two strikes brilliantly.

“Santi Cazorla played very well and delivered in a game that was very important. He’s a great player,” Wenger said. “He has shown he’s a great football player and I’m happy and grateful he delivered those two important goals today.

“I didn’t expect him to score so many goals for us. He has 11 games to go so he could get a few more. For me, he’s a complete football player because he also has spirit. He was a bit tired in the last few minutes, but he continued to fight. He’s a good example to follow. He’s happy to come and play and practice every day, and he gives you absolutely everything on a football pitch.”

The win puts pressure on Tottenham, which now has a one-point advantage over their rival for fourth place ahead of a game at West Ham on Monday.

Villa remains one point above the relegation zone, and on this evidence, certainly has the players to stay up.

Watched by owner American owner Stan Kroenke, making a rare visit to north London, Arsenal started well.

Jack Wilshere capitalized on a poor backpass and raced at goal, but the midfielder fired straight at the American Guzan.

Cazorla then lifted the quiet atmosphere inside the Emirates with Arsenal’s opener in the sixth minute.

Nathan Baker blocked Cazorla’s initial shot after some good work by Wilshere, but the Spaniard made no mistake with his second effort, slotting past Guzan with a beautiful curling effort.

Urged on by an animated Paul Lambert from the touchline, Villa looked to hit straight back. Charles N’Zogbia raced down the right past Thomas Vermaelen and pulled the ball back for Gabriel Agbonlahor, but Wojciech Szczesny saved.

N’Zogbia cantered down the flank moments later, but Agbonlahor was unable to keep up with him and he arrived just too late to tap in the Frenchman’s cross.

Weimann was the next man to charge at the Gunners defense. He laid the ball off to N’Zogbia, but Szczesny parried well before Thomas Vermaelen hooked the ball clear.

Villa’s attacks led to a nervous atmosphere inside the Emirates, but Theo Walcott brought them to the edge of their seats with a teasing curler that flew inches over Guzan’s goal.

Villa continued to pour forward, however. Matt Lowton nutmegged Abou Diaby and entered the Arsenal box, but Vermaelen came to the rescue with a last-gasp tackle. Lowton caught the Belgian in his follow-through and was booked for the foul. Diaby then entered the book for a clumsy challenge on N’Zogbia.

Arsenal’s passing was often sloppy and the home fans became annoyed at the Gunners’ attempts to pass the ball in to the net.

The hosts did produce an impressive move just before the break, though, with Cazorla finding Olivier Giroud, but Guzan was equal to the Frenchman’s effort.

Arsenal started to dominate the game again after the break but again was reluctant to shoot on goal, much to the annoyance of the home crowd.

With Arsenal throwing so many players forward, the Gunners were left vulnerable at the back.

Weimann went on another rampaging counter down the right and crossed for Agbonlahor, but the forward headed wide.

Wenger was forced into a change just after the hour when Diaby hobbled off with another injury. Aaron Ramsey came on in his place.

Villa then stunned the home side by equalizing. Carl Jenkinson failed to clear a long punt down field, the ball made its way to Weimann and he went on a blistering 40-yard run before beating Szczesny with a weak shot.

Wenger rose from his bench and cast a disappointed glare at his team. His troubles nearly worsened soon after when Christian Benteke found space at the back post, but Per Mertesacker got in front of the Belgian before he could head on goal.

Wenger gambled, throwing Lukas Podolski on for Jenkinson, and Arsenal pressured the visitors’ box.

Guzan saved brilliantly to deny Giroud from point-blank range as Arsenal continued to pile forward.

Arsenal got its reward five minutes from time when Nacho Monreal swung the ball into the box and Cazorla converted, much to the relief of Wenger and the home fans.

Lambert was disappointed to see his team come away with nothing despite a pleasing display.

“We shouldn’t have lost it,” he said. “We were exceptional in parts of that game and we should have been in the lead at halftime. At the very least we should have come away with a point.”

Arjen Robben opened the scoring in the 25th minute and Javi Martinez made it 2-0 moments later.

Sebastian Prodl was red-carded in the 44th minute before fellow Bremen defender Theo Gebre Selassie scored an own-goal after 49 minutes. Gomez increased the lead to 4-0 in the 51st minute.

Kevin de Bruyne pulled a goal back for Bremen in the 58th minute, but Franck Ribery joined in with the scoring in the 86th minute before Gomez netted again in the final minute.

Bayern increased its lead to 18 points over Borussia Dortmund with its sixth straight victory in what was coach Jupp Heynckes’ 1,000th Bundesliga match as coach and player.

Bremen remains on 28 points after its second straight loss.

Heynckes made six changes to his lineup following the Champions League win over Arsenal, with Robben and Gomez starting.

Bayern had the first chance after 20 minutes but Bremen goalkeeper Sebastian Mielitz made a fine save from Robben.

Bayern went ahead 1-0 five minutes later with an attack from the right, Philipp Lahm crossing into the box where a charging Robben poked home from five yards.

The lead doubled after 29 minutes as Robben sent a free kick into the box and Martinez headed home.

Bremen went a man down a minute before the break as Prodl was sent off for a professional foul on Gomez.

Bayern made it 3-0 thanks to an own-goal early in the second half when Gebre Selassie’s attempted clearance ended in Mielitz’s net.

Two minutes later it was four as Ribery looped a pass to Gomez, who passed the ball into the empty goal.

Bremen pulled a goal back in the 58th minute as Dante’s clearance only went to Aleksandar Ignjovski, who passed to de Bruyne and the Belgian did the rest.

Ribery made it five in the 86th minute, latching on to Lahm’s fine looping pass before beating Mielitz, while Gomez hit Bayern’s sixth in the 89th minute.

“The draw was fair,” Frankfurt coach Armin Veh said. “We didn’t allow anything in the first half, Freiburg were better in the second.”

Frankfurt’s Stefan Aigner — who had a goal ruled out for offside early on — could only hit the side-netting after racing toward goal in the 17th minute.

Freiburg improved after the break and almost scored from a corner in the 64th, when Stefano Celozzi cleared Jan Rosenthal’s header off the line. One minute later, he did it again, this time from Mattias Ginter.

“That’s what I’m there for,” Celozzi said.

Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp denied Max Kruse in the 76th, Johannes Flum headed over with five minutes remaining and then drew another save from Trapp.

“When we in Freiburg get so many chances in the first Bundesliga (division), then I’m happy,” Freiburg coach Christian Streich said. “We can’t always hope that we score the winner in the 80th minute.”

Frankfurt remained fourth while Freiburg stayed three points behind ahead of the rest of the weekend’s games.

Bundesliga leader Bayern Munich hosts Werder Bremen on Saturday, while defending champion Borussia Dortmund visits Borussia Moenchengladbach on Sunday.

Goals by Kroos in the seventh minute and Mueller in the 21st built a 2-0 lead. After Lukas Podolski scored for Arsenal in the 55th, Mario Mandzukic got Bayern’s final goal in the 77th.

The second leg of the total-goals series is in Germany on March 13.

“Let’s not hide the truth,” Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said, “it will be very difficult. We will try to make the impossible possible.”

In Tuesday’s other game, Joao Moutinho scored in the 56th minute to give Porto a 1-0 win over visiting Malaga.

The first leg ends Wednesday when AC Milan hosts Barcelona and Schalke is at Galatasaray.

While Bayern leads the Bundesliga by 15 points and reached the Champions League final in two of the last three years — losing both — Arsenal is in the midst of the most trying season since Wenger was hired in October 1996.

Arsenal is fifth in the Premier League, 21 points behind first-place Manchester United and four back of rival Tottenham for England’s last berth in next season’s Champions League.

The Gunners, who haven’t won a trophy since the 2005 FA Cup, were knocked out by fourth-tier Bradford in December’s League Cup quarterfinals and were eliminated from the FA Cup’s fifth round by second-tier Blackburn last season.

Now this year’s Champions League title is a longshot.

“You have to give credit for their class,” Wenger said of Bayern. “In patches in the first half, there was a difference in quality.”

Arsenal central defenders Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny had a poor night, with the first goal coming after Bayern collected an errant clearance from Koscielny. Mueller crossed for Kroos, who beat goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny with an 18-yard volley.

Mueller scored when he poked the ball into an unguarded net after Szczesny parried a header from an unmarked Daniel Van Buyten.

Arsenal’s players were jeered when they walked off at halftime, while Bayern fans sang another rendition of “Football’s Coming Home” in English.

“We didn’t start great and that’s been a thing for us this season,” Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere said. “Maybe it’s a bit of nerves or anxiety because we show what we can do when we play.”

Podolski cut the gap when he headed Jack Wilshere’s corner kick into an open net. But Mandzukic finished a sweeping move by bundling in Philipp Lahm’s low cross at the far post, the ball looping up off the Croatian’s heel and beyond Szczesny.

“We are currently in astonishing form,” said Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes, who will be replaced by Pep Guardiola this summer. “Our quality is we can punish even the smallest mistakes of our opponents.”

Persistent rumours in Spain have linked both the Real Madrid coach and the team’s talisman with a move to the Qatari-backed Ligue 1 side. Mourinho’s regular rows with his dressing-room and Ronaldo’s ongoing ‘unhappiness’ regarding his contract situation have been seen as offering PSG an ideal opportunity to pounce.

And the French club’s current biggest star Ibrahimovic says he would welcome the pair with open arms.

“That would be great news for any team as Mourinho is a great coach, among the best in the world, and Cristiano Ronaldo is also among the best players around,” Zlatan told Marca. “But at the moment that is not the reality. People can dream about their arrival and speculate, but until it happens you cannot give an answer.”

The Sweden international also revealed his feelings about the decision of his former coach Pep Guardiola to take charge at Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich next season. Ibrahimovic, who did not always see eye to eye with Guardiola during their season together at Barcelona, believes the Catalan coach’s choice of new club has given him a chance to repeat his past success.

“It is his personal decision, what he thinks he should do,” he said. “I think that is the most important. It is a good opportunity that he can take advantage of. It is a big club, with great players and an impressive structure and organisation. The German mentality is different. He has the same opportunity to repeat the work he did in Barcelona. He will be at one of the five best teams in the world.”

PSG face La Liga side Valencia in the Champions League last 16 next month, and Ibrahimovic is expecting a close encounter over the two legs.

“Valencia play good football,” he said. “We must be careful. The first game at the Mestalla will be very important. They are a tough team and we must be very focused. Little details will decide the tie.”

Cole’s previous deal was set to expire at the end of the season and at one stage he was expected to leave the Champions League holders.

However the 32-year-old, who had been linked with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, has agreed fresh terms at the club he joined from Arsenal in 2006.

Cole said on the club’s official website: “I am pleased I will be starting my eighth season at Chelsea.

“I wanted to stay at Chelsea because we are always fighting and challenging for trophies. That desire and the will to want to win things have not gone.”

Cole, who has played 293 games for Chelsea, added: “I have great memories here and I enjoy coming to training every day. The staff are amazing and I enjoy training with the lads.

“I have been able to fulfil nearly all my ambitions at Chelsea. I have won the Champions League, the League, I have won FA Cups here but of course you don’t want to stop winning trophies and being at a big club, you are always fighting to win a trophy.

“Being here for seven years and being at Arsenal before that playing for trophies, you never lose that hunger. I wanted to stay at Chelsea because we are always fighting and challenging for trophies. That desire and the will to want To win things have not gone.”

With Chelsea, Cole has won one Premier League title, four FA Cups, one League Cup and was also part of the team that defeated Bayern Munich in last year’s Champions League final.

Cole said there was a slight sense of trepidation at what might have occurred had he left Chelsea.

Discussing his stay at the club, he said on Chelsea TV: “It’s gone quick. After six or seven years and the trophies I’ve won here and the great memories I’ve got here it was a little bit scary and sad thinking I could have left. But I’m glad to have signed and stay here for another year.”
