Jordan, a defensive end and linebacker from Oregon, signed a multiyear contract Saturday and will take part in the first training camp practice Sunday. He missed all of the Dolphins’ offseason workouts because Oregon is on the quarter system.

Jordan’s deal is worth $20,572,298 in total, including a signing bonus of $13,341,672 and $5,070,626 in guaranteed roster bonuses. The signing bonus will be paid over the next four months.

With his signing, the Dolphins have all nine draft choices under contract. Players reported Saturday.

Jordan has been in South Florida for the past two months working out with teammates, but conceded he had ground to make up because of the practices he missed. He had right shoulder surgery in February and might be limited at the start of camp.

The 6-foot-6, 240-pound Jordan was the third player taken in the draft after the Dolphins swung a trade with Oakland to move up nine spots. Miami projects he’ll upgrade a defense that tied for fourth-worst in the league in takeaways last year.

Jordan totaled 14½ career sacks as a speed rusher in college and has drawn comparisons to former Dolphin Jason Taylor. Jordan may initially be a pass-rush specialist with the Dolphins, but they anticipate he’ll eventually become an every-down end in their 4-3 scheme opposite Cameron Wake, who has 43 sacks over the past four seasons.

Beatty’s agents, Alan Herman and Jared Fox, declined to confirm the deal and its details when contacted Wednesday. The two sides spent part of the weekend at the combine trying to reach an agreement.

Beatty — who turns 28 on Saturday — took his physical and now will spend the prime of his career with the Giants.

The left tackle has played in 50 games (31 starts) since being drafted by the Giants in the second round of the 2009 draft.

Beatty was a major priority for the Giants in free agency. He started 15 games this past season at left tackle despite missing most of the offseason and training camp with a back issue. With Beatty back in the fold, the Giants can focus now on re-signing starting left guard Kevin Boothe to solidify the left side of the offensive line.

Tight end Martellus Bennett is also another free agent the Giants would like to have back. General manager Jerry Reese recently released veterans such as running back Ahmad Bradshaw, defensive tackle Chris Canty and linebacker Michael Boley to clear cap space to keep young free agents like Beatty. Reese may have some more maneuvering to do to keep some of his free agents and restricted free agents like wide receiver Victor Cruz, safety Stevie Brown and running back Andre Brown.

Reese will also try to strengthen the offensive line. The line can use more depth with right guard Chris Snee, center David Baas and tackle David Diehl all undergoing offseason surgery.

Jones’ decision means that the draft’s projected top linebacker and top running back, as well as one of the top quarterbacks and one of the top wide receivers, are not planning to work out at this week’s combine.

A two-time All-American at Georgia, Jones is one of 32 SEC underclassmen making the jump to the NFL this year. He is one of six underclassmen ranked among the top 10 prospects on Kiper’s latest Big Board.

During the 2012 season, Jones led the nation in sacks (14.5) and tackles for a loss (24.5), both Georgia records. In two seasons at Georgia, the USC transfer recorded 28 sacks and 44 tackles for a loss in 26 games.

In other expected moves, the Jets also cut a pair of backups, safety Eric Smith and tackle Jason Smith. Injured tight end Josh Baker was waived, giving the Jets a total of $24.2 million in salary-cap relief when Baker’s salary is factored. As of last week, they were $23.3 million over the cap.

The Jets announced after their releases that linebacker Bart Scott had met the same fate. To remain on the roster, Scott, due to make $6.9 million, would have had to agree to a massive pay cut.

Tuesday’s releases start what figures to be a tumultuous offseason under new general manager John Idzik, whose top priority is determining the future of Darrelle Revis. The star cornerback has one year left on his contract, but the Jets may trade him instead of meeting his salary demands.

Pace was an every-down linebacker, but his cap charge was prohibitive — he was due to count $11.6 million. By cutting him, the Jets will get hit with $3.0 million in “dead” money, meaning there will be a savings of $8.6 million.

The Jets snagged Pace with a six-year, $42 million contract during free agency in 2008, one of many key additions in a blockbuster offseason. Of all the big-name acquisitions — Alan Faneca, Kris Jenkins, Damien Woody and, later, Brett Favre — Pace lasted the longest.

Pace didn’t become the pass-rusher the Jets envisioned, never eclipsing eight sacks in a season. In 2012 he played in 94 percent of the defensive snaps, recording only three sacks and 42 solo tackles (sixth on the team).

His signature moment occurred in the 2010 playoffs when he landed on the cover of Sports Illustrated, an action shot of him sacking Tom Brady in the Jets’ stunning upset of the New England Patriots.

In five seasons with the Jets, Pace had 28 sacks and 12 forced fumbles. He was a key member of the 2009 defense, which led the league in fewest yards allowed. He could draw interest from the Buffalo Bills, where he’d be reunited with former Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine.

The Jets don’t have an obvious replacement for Pace, but they could draft an outside linebacker with the ninth overall pick in April.

Jason Smith’s ouster was a no-brainer considering his $12 million cap figure — which included an $11.25 million roster bonus. The Jets inherited the contract last August from the St. Louis Rams, who previously had restructured the contract to include the prohibitive bonus, virtually ensuring free agency in 2013.

The entire $12 million charge is wiped off the Jets’ cap, an enormous savings that will allow them to do business on the open market.

Smith was acquired last August in a trade with the Rams as a straight-up swap for Wayne Hunter, another right tackle who fell out of favor. Smith, the No. 2 overall pick in 2009, was used exclusively as a backup. He played in 24 percent of the offensive snaps as an extra blocker in the “jumbo” package.

Eric Smith was a valuable backup who contributed heavily on special teams. He was a situational player last season on defense, but he has started 36 games in his career. He was due to make $3 million in the final year of his contract, all of which is cleaned off the cap.

He, too, could be reunited with Pettine in Buffalo.

According to a release from the Issaquah Police Department on Wednesday morning, Hill was arrested on investigation of unlawful imprisonment-domestic violence and third-degree assault-domestic violence. Issaquah police said Hill would be booked into the King County Jail.

Police said they responded to Hill’s home around 4 p.m. Tuesday. A 26-year-old said she had been assaulted several times and was kept in Hill’s home against her will. Police say the woman escaped the home when Hill used the bathroom. She was treated at a hospital and released.

A Seahawks spokesman said the team is aware of the situation. Hill is scheduled to become a free agent this offseason.

The Jackson County Medical Examiner report on Belcher, 25, raised new questions about whether police should have done more before the Dec. 1 murder-suicide. Officers found Belcher sleeping in his idling car about five hours earlier, but let him go inside a nearby apartment to sleep it off.

At the time of the autopsy, Belcher’s BAC was 0.17, more than twice the limit of 0.08 percent for Missouri drivers, and it was likely higher when he shot girlfriend Kasandra Perkins, 22, at the couple’s Kansas City home.

A police report released previously said Belcher had gone out the night before with a woman he was dating on the side while Perkins attended a concert with her friends.

Police who found Belcher sleeping in his Bentley outside the woman’s apartment told him to turn off the ignition and he complied, the report said.

The report said Belcher “initially displayed possible signs of being under the influence (asleep and disoriented).” But the report added that after a few minutes of being awake his “demeanor and communication became more fluid and coherent.” The report added that officers didn’t smell alcohol on Belcher, and that there were no signs of him being “violent or emotionally unstable.”

Under both city ordinance and state law, it is illegal to operate a motor vehicle while intoxicated, city prosecutor Lowell C. Gard said in an email. He said a vehicle doesn’t need to be in motion for it to be determined that the person behind the wheel was operating it.

“Operation has been defined in Missouri courts to include a wide range of activity, including sitting behind the wheel of a parked car with the engine running, and sitting alone behind the wheel of a parked car with a warm, but shut off, engine,” Gard wrote. “However, problems of proof arise when the arresting officer must provide evidence of that operation contemporaneous with intoxication.”

Kansas City police Sgt. Marisa Barnes said in an email she wasn’t aware of anyone being disciplined over the case. Even if they were, she said, she wouldn’t be able to discuss it.

Belcher asked the officers who found him if he could stay inside the apartment for the night. Belcher tried to call his girlfriend, but she didn’t discover the missed calls until the next morning. Two women who were up late invited Belcher to wait inside their nearby apartment after he explained his plight. They said Belcher “appeared to be intoxicated” but “seemed to be in good spirits,” the police report said.

Belcher slept on their couch for a couple hours, leaving at 6:45 a.m. so he could make it to a team meeting planned for later that morning.

Upon arriving at the home he shared with Perkins, the couple began arguing. Belcher’s mother, Cheryl Shepherd, who had moved in with them about two weeks earlier, heard multiple gunshots and ran to the bedroom, where she saw Belcher kneeling next to Perkins’ body, saying he was sorry. The autopsy report says Perkins was shot in the neck, chest, abdomen, hip, back, leg and hand.

After kissing Perkins, his baby daughter and his mother, Belcher drove to Arrowhead Stadium. The autopsy said Belcher shot himself in the right temple as coach Romeo Crennel and general manager Scott Pioli looked on.

The infant, Zoe, is the subject of a custody fight between relatives of Belcher and Perkins.

The Crimson Tide will be happy to match muscle vs. muscle with Notre Dame’s defense behind a powerhouse offensive line that averages 315 pounds per man. Alabama has a pair of 1,000-yard backs in junior Eddie Lacy and freshman T.J. Yeldon, who combined for 27 touchdowns and piled up 334 yards in the SEC title game win over Georgia. Quarterback AJ McCarron threw for 26 touchdowns against only three interceptions and showed he was much more than a caretaker of the offense by leading late drives to beat LSU and Georgia. His top weapon is Amari Cooper, who has 53 receptions and nine touchdowns. Notre Dame’s defense has been getting all the publicity, but the Crimson Tide have their own elite linebacker in C.J. Mosley and held 10 opponents to less than 14 points while recording four shutouts.

Alabama was a 32-28 winner in their most recent outing on the road against Georgia. They failed to cover the 9-point spread as favorites, while the total score (60) made winners of OVER bettors.

Te’o, the Heisman Trophy runner-up, is the heart and soul of a defense that permitted only nine touchdowns overall and two on the ground. He has seven interceptions and played behind a stellar defensive front featuring ends Stephon Tuitt (12 sacks) and Kapron Lewis-Moore sandwiching the massive Louis Nix III. Notre Dame’s running back corps of Theo Riddick, Cierre Wood and George Atkinson III combined for 2,000 yards and will test a defense that allowed a national-low 246 yards. Still, Notre Dame’s offense revolves around dual-threat quarterback Everett Golson. He threw for 11 touchdowns against five interceptions and had four of of his five-highest passing totals in November. Golson also rushed for 305 yards and five scores and his ability to keep the chains moving against Alabama’s defense will be vital.

Last time out for Notre Dame, they were a 22-13 winner as they battled Southern Cal on the road. Notre Dame covered in the match as a 4.5-point favorite, while 35 combined points moved the game UNDER for totals bettors.

Crennel was fired after one full season as coach, and one day after Kansas City matched the fewest wins in franchise history with an embarrassing 38-3 loss to the Denver Broncos.

“I am embarrassed by the poor product we gave our fans this season, and I believe we have no choice but to move the franchise in a different direction,” Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt said in a statement. “I will immediately begin the search for the next head coach of the Chiefs. The entire football operation will remain under review and there may be additional changes to come.”

Hunt said that “no final determination has been made” about Pioli’s future.

The Chiefs’ only victories this season came against New Orleans and Carolina, the latter coming one day after linebacker Jovan Belcher shot his girlfriend to death and then drove to the team’s practice facility and turned the gun on himself as Crennel and Pioli looked on.

Crennel seemed to know the end was coming Sunday night when he was asked to defend his job and said, “If your criteria is wins and losses, there’s not much defense.”

Kansas City will have the No. 1 pick in the draft after the most disappointing season in its 53-year history. The only other time the Chiefs finished 2-14 was 2008, the year before Pioli was hired. They were 2-12 in 1977, the only other time they’ve failed to win at least three games.

“Words can’t describe it, to be honest with you,” cornerback Brandon Flowers said. “We have to do the best we can to block this out and start from scratch next year.”

With five players voted to the Pro Bowl last week, there are certainly pieces in place for the Chiefs to make rapid improvement. But four of them were inherited by Pioli’s regime, and that haul of Pro Bowl players may have been Crennel’s biggest indictment.

The only other teams with at least five players voted to the all-star game made the playoffs.

The Chiefs’ inept offense managed 18 touchdowns in 16 games, finished minus-24 in turnover ratio and lost nine times by two touchdowns or more. Along the way, they broke an 83-year-old NFL record by not holding a lead in regulation until their ninth game.

Crennel, whose career record as a head coach is 28-55, was hired in 2010 to be the Chiefs’ defensive coordinator. Respected by his players, he was appointed interim coach last December when Pioli fired Todd Haley with three games left in the season.

Crennel immediately brought a sense of stability to a floundering franchise, defeating the previously unbeaten Green Bay Packers and winning at Denver in the season finale — after which, players spontaneously started chanting his name in the visiting locker room.

“That’s my guy. Everybody knows that,” defensive tackle Shaun Smith said. “That’s not only my coach, that’s my role model. My father figure. We don’t just talk football, we talk life.”

With the support of the players, Pioli made Crennel the permanent coach a few weeks later, giving him another opportunity as a head coach after going 24-40 in four seasons with the Browns.

The season wound up being a disappointment from the start.

The Chiefs were blown out by the Falcons in their opener, trounced on the road by the Bills and needed an 18-point comeback to force overtime in their win over the Saints.

Then a stretch of eight consecutive defeats.

Empty seats began to multiply at Arrowhead Stadium, once one of the most intimidating venues in the NFL. An organized fan rebellion paid for banners to be towed behind airplanes asking for Pioli to be fired, and the majority of fans dressed in black for a home game against Cincinnati.

Nothing Crennel did seemed to work, either.

He began the season as the defensive coordinator, but fired himself and turned those duties over to linebackers coach Gary Gibbs. He benched Matt Cassel, in the fourth year of a $63 million contract, and went with Brady Quinn, who played just as poorly the rest of the season.

Injuries were numerous, turnovers plentiful, penalties crippling and blown assignments became the hallmark of a team that was rarely in games into the fourth quarter.

Then came the morning of Dec. 1, when tragedy struck.

Belcher, a part-time starter, shot the mother of his 3-month-old daughter, Kasandra Perkins, multiple times at a home not far from Arrowhead Stadium. The linebacker then sped to the team’s practice facility and was confronted by Pioli, who tried to talk him out of more violence.

After thanking Pioli and Crennel for his chance in the NFL, Belcher shot himself in the head.

The Chiefs played the following day against Carolina, and Crennel was praised for the way he stoically led a team in turmoil. Kansas City put together its best performance in a 27-21 victory.

It wound up being their last win, though.

The Chiefs were blown out by Cleveland, shut out by Oakland and beaten by the Colts before an embarrassing season finale against the Broncos.

It was enough to finish Crennel, and enough to put Pioli’s future in jeopardy.

“I want our fans to know that I will do everything I can to provide them a dramatically better team,” Hunt said, “both next season and in the seasons to come.”
