PREDICTION: VEGAS , ST LOUIS

Oddsmakers currently have the ST LOUIS listed as 150-moneyline favorites versus the VEGAS, while the game’s total is sitting at 5.5.

The Vegas Golden Knights gave fans a glimpse last time out of what it was like during their inaugural season and hope to build off that effort when they host the last-place St. Louis Blues on Friday night. The Golden Knights reached the Stanley Cup finals in their maiden NHL voyage before struggling with injuries and inconsistency through the first quarter of this season, but looked sharp in a 5-0 victory over Anaheim at home Wednesday.

“We played a full 60 minutes,” Vegas forward Alex Tuch told reporters. “At times, we gave up a few odd-man rushes, but everyone was on the same page, dialed in and working hard. It makes it easy on everyone. When you’re working as a five-man unit, this team especially I think is unstoppable.” The Golden Knights lost eight of their first 13 games in 2018-19 after falling 5-3 at St. Louis on Nov. 1 and have split six contests since, while the Blues continue their see-saw campaign. St. Louis looked ready to go on a run after wins over San Jose and Carolina last week completed a 4-1-0 stretch, but has dropped one-goal games to Minnesota (3-2) and Chicago (1-0) since to remain at the bottom of the Central Division. “We just have to find ways to win right now,” Blues coach Mike Yeo told reporters of his team, which is 0-4-3 in one-goal games. “That’s what it comes down to.”

TV: 10 p.m. ET, FS Midwest (St. Louis), AT&T Sportsnet Rocky Mountain (Vegas)

ABOUT THE BLUES (6-7-3): St. Louis had a 28-19 edge in shots Wednesday, but was shut out for the first time this season to add to the frustration for a team that ranked eighth in scoring (3.25 per game) entering Thursday. “We’ve been scoring tons of goals and giving up a lot and then we can’t score and we only give up one,” Blues center Tyler Bozak told reporters Wednesday. “It’s a tough loss. I thought we did a lot of good things, but we have to get back to work.” Center Ryan O’Reilly leads the team with 21 points, including 17 in the past 11 contests and five goals in a five-game span.

ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS (8-10-1): Center Cody Eakin boasts three goals in his last two outings and six points during a five-game streak after scoring twice in Wednesday’s victory. “I’m just having fun,” Eakin, who has seven goals after netting 11 all of last season, told reporters. “I think that’s important to enjoy it and have fun. Pucks are going in right now. There will be times when they aren’t, but I’ll try and ride it.” Tuch also scored in the win over Anaheim and owns 11 points in 11 games since starting the season on injured reserve – six during a four-game point streak.

OVERTIME

1. St. Louis F Jaden Schwartz has three points in the last three games after posting four in his first 11 contests this season.

2. Golden Knights F Jonathan Marchessault, who leads the team with 15 points, has two goals and an assist in three games versus St. Louis since arriving in Vegas.

3. Blues C Brayden Schenn (upper body) has missed four straight contests and is questionable for Friday.

PREDICTION: Golden Knights 4, Blues 1

PREDICTION: OTTAWA , VEGAS

Oddsmakers currently have the VEGAS listed as -150-moneyline favorites versus the OTTAWA, while the game’s total is sitting at 5.5.

The Ottawa Senators rebounded from an embarrassing viral video and put a significantly better performance on tape, scoring a season-high seven goals for just their second win in eight outings. The Senators aim to complete a three-game homestand on a positive note Thursday when the Vegas Golden Knights pay a visit to Canadian Tire Centre.

Matt Duchene set up three goals as Ottawa breezed to a 7-3 win over New Jersey on Tuesday in the wake of a video clip depicting seven players – including Duchene himself – insulting assistant coach Martin Raymond during an Uber ride. “I want to take this opportunity to extend my absolute sincere apologies to Marty Raymond,” the 27-year-old Duchene said, per the Ottawa Citizen. “He is a heck of a person, and coach, and he didn’t deserve what we said.” Vegas defenseman Shea Theodore extended his assist streak to four games by setting up Cody Eakin’s second-period goal during Tuesday’s 3-1 setback at Toronto. Jonathan Marchessault has been held off the scoresheet in back-to-back contests following a three-game point streak that began with his goal on a penalty shot in overtime of a 4-3 win against the Senators on Oct. 28.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, AT&T SportsNet-Rocky Mountains (Vegas), RDS2, TSN5 (Ottawa)

ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS (6-8-1): Erik Haula sustained a gruesome right leg injury when he was hit by Maple Leafs forward Patrick Marleau along the side boards, resulting in the 27-year-old Finn being removed from the ice on a stretcher. Coach Gerard Gallant told reporters on Wednesday that Haula will remain with the team but won’t play in the remaining three games of the road trip. Haula, who posted career highs in goals (29), assists (26) and points (55) last season, had been playing on the second line in place of an injured Paul Stastny (lower body).

ABOUT THE SENATORS (6-6-3): Thomas Chabot pushed his point streak to four games after scoring a goal and setting up two others against the Devils. The 21-year-old Quebec native certainly has stepped in up the absence of the former captain Erik Karlsson, leading all NHL defensemen in assists (16) and points (20) this season. Mark Stone is hot on his heels in regard to the team lead, as he recorded five points (two goals, three assists) versus the Devils to give him 10 during his four-game point streak and 18 overall.

OVERTIME

1. Vegas RW Alex Tuch has three goals in three career meetings with Ottawa, including two last month.

2. Senators G Craig Anderson, who had 49 saves in the previous encounter versus the Golden Knights, will draw the start despite exiting Tuesday’s tilt for an undisclosed reason.

3. All four of Eakin’s goals this season have been scored against Eastern Conference representatives.

PREDICTION: Golden Knights 4, Senators 2

PREDICTION: TORONTO , VEGAS

Oddsmakers currently have the VEGAS listed as 125-moneyline favorites versus the TORONTO, while the game’s total is sitting at 5.5.

While the Toronto Maple Leafs have yet to taste defeat on the road, their home cooking has left a bit to be desired heading into Tuesday’s contest versus the visiting Vegas Golden Knights. The Maple Leafs have seen their offense take a significant dip in front of the home folks, registering just 2.0 goals per game at home (3-5-0) after recording a gaudy 5.33 on the road (6-0-0).

John Tavares’ numbers have followed suit, as he has mustered just four points (one goal, three assists) in eight games in Toronto as opposed to 12 (seven goals, five assists) in six road contests – including a goal and an assist in Saturday’s 5-0 romp in Pittsburgh. “A textbook win on the road, nice to get that feeling back. We have to try and have a little bit of that mindset (at home), simplify things maybe, trust who we are as a team and individually,” the 28-year-old Ontario native told reporters. While Toronto has prospered on the road, Vegas has struggled away from Sin City with losses in five of seven such contests heading into the opener of its four-game road trip. Marc-Andre Fleury turned aside all 34 shots he faced in Saturday’s 3-0 triumph over Carolina to record his 50th career shutout, although the three-time Stanley Cup winner is just 2-3-0 with a 2.81 goals-against average on the road.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain (Vegas), TSN4 (Toronto)

ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS (6-7-1): Erik Haula notched a two-assist performance for the second time in four games on Saturday and had a goal and an assist as Vegas split its season series with Toronto in 2017-18. Fellow forward William Karlsson tallied three times and set up another goal in the Golden Knights’ 6-3 romp over the Maple Leafs on New Year’s Eve. The 25-year-old Swede has yet to find the back of the net on the road this season, although he does have five of his team co-leading seven assists away from T-Mobile Arena.

ABOUT THE MAPLE LEAFS (9-5-0): Morgan Rielly tallied twice against the Penguins to take the lead among all NHL defensemen in goals (six) and points (18) this season. The 24-year-old already has matched his goal total from last season – in 62 fewer games, no less – and hopes his good fortune on the road translates to the rest of his team at home. “We feel good about the road, but it’s time we assert ourselves in our own building,” Rielly told reporters.

OVERTIME

1. Vegas RW Ryan Reaves has scored four goals in his last seven games after failing to notch a point in each of his previous seven contests.

2. Toronto C Mitch Marner has seven assists in his last six contests.

3. Golden Knights D Shea Theodore is riding a three-game assist streak.

PREDICTION: Maple Leafs 3, Golden Knights 2

PREDICTION: DALLAS , VEGAS

Oddsmakers currently have the VEGAS listed as -moneyline favorites versus the DALLAS, while the game’s total is sitting at .

DALLAS — The last time the Vegas Golden Knights played at American Airlines Center, they defeated the Dallas Stars 2-1 on Oct. 6 to win their inaugural game.

On Friday night, Vegas (18-9-1, 37 points) won 4-3 in a shootout at Nashville, running the Golden Knights’ winning streak to three games.

“It’s a tough road trip. We’re playing two good teams and we want to keep winning,” Vegas goaltender Malcolm Subban, who stopped 41 of 44 shots against the Predators, told the Golden Knights’ official website after Friday’s victory.

All three wins during the current streak have come in overtime or the shootout. The Golden Knights are 5-0 in overtime games this season and 2-1 in the shootout, winning each of their past two games.

On Friday night, Vegas led 2-1 after 40 minutes, but after Nashville scored two goals in a row, the Golden Knights were looking at a possible 3-2 road loss. However, after pulling Subban, Vegas’ Erik Haula tied it at 3 with 40 seconds left to force overtime.

And after five scoreless rounds in the shootout, former Star Reilly Smith clinched the win for Vegas, now 7-7-1 on the road, with a goal as the Golden Knights’ sixth shooter.

“They’re huge points for our team, especially coming into a place like Nashville, one of the better teams in the league and staying with them most of the night,” Golden Knights coach Gerard Gallant told the team’s official website.

While the Golden Knights head into the third and final regular-season meeting with Dallas on a win streak, the Stars (16-12-1, 33 points) are licking their wounds after dropping their past two games by a combined score of 8-2.

On Tuesday night, the Stars fell 5-2 to the Predators in Dallas, a game Nashville led 5-0 after two periods.

And on Thursday night, Dallas got blanked 3-0 in St. Louis, a loss that makes the Stars 4-8-0 against the rest of the Central Division.

“The last two games are good eye-openers. Some of the things we did very well at and the little details that need to go into automatic in our game are not there,” Stars coach Ken Hitchcock said Friday after an optional practice. “Some of the winning habits that we need to have to beat the good teams are not there, and we’re trying to get caught up.”

Another concern for the Stars is the fact that captain Jamie Benn, a former Art Ross Trophy winner, is currently on a nine-game streak without a goal. Benn’s last goal came Nov. 18 against Edmonton.

Benn does have three assists since his last goal, but after an optional practice on Friday, Hitchcock acknowledged that maybe an excessive workload on Benn and Tyler Seguin, which includes plenty of ice time on both special teams, might be adversely affecting their offensive production.

“We probably got to include more people because if we’re asking Benn and Seguin to kill penalties and they’ve done a great job at it, are they going to have enough energy to put into scoring situations? That’s something we’ve got to evaluate,” Hitchcock said.

Something Hitchcock likely won’t have to evaluate much is who starts in goal on Saturday night? Ben Bishop did not travel to St. Louis because of a sore back, so Dallas recalled Mike McKenna from AHL Texas to back up Kari Lehtonen on Thursday night.

On Friday morning, McKenna was reassigned to AHL Texas and Bishop skated with several teammates in Frisco during an optional on-ice session.

“Oh yeah, if he handles practice well, he’s available for selection (for Saturday), so we’ll see,” Hitchcock said of Bishop. “I’m going to talk to (goaltending coach) Jeff Reese and see how he feels about it, but we’re assuming if he comes through this thing 100 percent, it’s going to be our decision.”

Saturday could also mark the return of gritty forward Antoine Roussel, who has missed the past four games with the flu. Like Bishop, Roussel skated during Friday’s optional and he could be in line to make his return against Vegas.

If Dallas gets Roussel back in the lineup, Hitchcock expects the Stars to receive a nice boost.

“Yeah, he provides a definitive energy, which is contagious,” Hitchcock said of Roussel. “But he was also playing awful well (before he got sick). He was playing smart, high-energy hockey and that was really helping us a lot.”

On Thursday, Dallas took seven penalties and the Blues scored two of their three goals while on the power play. In fact, the Stars have committed three or more penalties in nine of their last 10 games, a trend Hitchcock has already addressed.

“We take too many undisciplined penalties, stick fouls, which hurt us,” Hitchcock said. “We’ve got to get that resolved. It’s been kind of an ongoing issue with five or six guys on the team all year. We got to get that resolved so that we can put our best players on the ice more.”

Two positives for Dallas heading into this game are the Stars’ 10-3-0 record on home ice and the fact that the Stars shut out the Golden Knights 3-0 on Nov. 28 in Las Vegas.

“Our five-on-five play is as good as anybody in the league right now. Our five-on-five play, defensively, we don’t give up much,” Hitchcock said. “We need to be better offensively five-on-five, more in the finish area, not in creating chances. We do get a lot of chances, but there is a void. There’s only a select few that are getting all the chances, that’s a little bit of a concern for us right now.”

PREDICTION: Coyotes 4, Golden Knights 3

Oddsmakers currently have the ARIZONA listed as 135-moneyline favorites versus the VEGAS, while the game’s total is sitting at 6.

LAS VEGAS — Las Vegas ranks as one of the top tourist destinations in the world. And the Vegas Golden Knights wouldn’t mind spending a little time checking out the sights themselves.

Vegas finished a brutal stretch that saw it play 12 of 16 games on the road on Friday night with a 7-4 loss at Winnipeg. The Golden Knights, who lost at Minnesota 4-2 the night before, seemed to run out of gas in the third period, allowing five goals to the Central Division-leading Jets.

But the schedule is a whole lot more favorable for Vegas in December. The Golden Knights (15-9-1), who host Arizona late Sunday afternoon at T-Mobile Arena, play seven of their next nine games at home where they’ve compiled a glossy 9-2-0 mark.

It will be the first time Vegas has played at home since getting blanked 3-0 by Dallas on Tuesday. The loss snapped a five-game overall win streak and an eight-game home win streak for the Golden Knights, both of which tied the NHL record for a team in its inaugural season.

Vegas blew a 2-1 lead Friday night in Winnipeg, allowing three power-play goals in the process, including two over a 2:15 span that gave the Jets a 4-2 lead. The Golden Knights, who killed only two of five penalties, fell to 21th in the NHL in penalty killing at 77.8 percent.

“They’ve got really skilled guys, move the puck around really well,” Vegas left wing James Neal said. “We knew that going in. … We just need to stay out of the box a little bit more. That was it. Power plays can win you the game, and they thrive on theirs.”

Vegas coach Gerard Gallant summed up the loss a little more bluntly.

“We played good in spurts, and then we fell asleep in spurts and didn’t play hard,” Gallant said.

The Golden Knights and Arizona, which blanked visiting New Jersey 5-0 on Saturday night, will be meeting for the fourth time this season. Vegas has won all three of the previous meetings, including 4-2 in their last matchup Nov. 22 in Glendale, Ariz.

“Any time you get a win it feels good, especially the year we’ve been having, it’s been hard to get them,” said Coyotes left wing Jordan Martinook, who had one of the goals Saturday night. “When you get them, you want to be excited, but then excited for about an hour because we’ve got to regroup and think about Vegas.”

This is the second time the two teams have played at T-Mobile Arena. The first occurred Oct. 10 in the home opener for the Golden Knights. Vegas, which honored victims and first responders of the Oct. 1 mass shooting at a country music festival just blocks away from T-Mobile Center in an emotional pregame ceremony, scored four goals in the first 10:42, including a pair by Neal, and cruised to a 5-2 victory.

The Coyotes (7-18-4) started the season 0-10-1 but have played better lately under first-year coach Rick Tocchet, going 5-3-1 in their last nine games. Arizona is 4-10-3 on the road this season.

Scott Wedgewood had 26 saves to notch the shutout for the Coyotes on Saturday night but starting goalie Antti Raanta, who missed his fifth straight game with an upper-body injury, could be in net Sunday against the Golden Knights.

OVERTIME

1. Vegas LW David Perron has 11 points in his last nine contests and needs three to reach 400 in his career.

2. Arizona F Zac Rinaldo had an assist Saturday and his next game will be the 300th of his NHL career.

3. The Golden Knights are 0-for-10 on the power play over the last three games, and sat 17th in the league entering Saturday (18.7 percent).

PREDICTION: Wild 3, Golden Knights 2

Oddsmakers currently have the VEGAS listed as 150-moneyline favorites versus the MINNESOTA, while the game’s total is sitting at 5.5.

SAINT PAUL, Minn. — At the midway point of November, the Minnesota Wild were on a roll, having shut out three consecutive opponents behind goaltender Devan Dubnyk’s strong play and a sound defensive game.

Just two weeks later, however, Minnesota is 3-3-1 in a seven-game stretch in which the Wild have allowed 30 goals, an average of 4.3 per game entering a Wednesday home game against the Vegas Golden Knights.

OVERTIME

1. Minnesota C Eric Staal (team-leading 13 assists, 21 points) has scored four goals and set up nine others in his last 12 contests.

2. Vegas D Brayden McNabb signed a four-year, $10 million contract, the team announced Wednesday.

3. Wild F Zach Parise skated on Wednesday for the first time since microdiscectomy surgery on Oct. 24. There is no timeline for his return to practice or games, however.

“If you’re going to do that, you can’t win in the NHL,” Wild coach Bruce Boudreau said after a 7-2 loss at Winnipeg on Monday, a game Minnesota led 2-0 in the first period. “It’s almost impossible for me to think you can get three shutouts in a row and seven games later you allow 30 goals. After those shutouts, we were third in the league defensively.”

The Winnipeg loss followed a 6-3 beating in St. Louis that left Dubnyk with 16 goals against in four games and backup Alex Stalock getting the start against the Jets.

Between game days, holidays and mandatory off days, full practices have been hard to come by for the Wild (11-10-3). However, Boudreau was able to put his team through the paces Wednesday as Minnesota prepared to face former teammate Erik Haula and the Golden Knights (15-7-1) for the first time.

ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS (15-7-1): Erik Haula made himself at home in Minnesota, as the Finnish-born forward was a prep school and college star in the state before spending the past four seasons with the Wild. “The whole deal is going to be super weird,” the 26-year-old Haula told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “I’m going to try to have as much fun with it as possible. I definitely had this day marked on my calendar.” Haula, who joins former Wild forward Alex Tuch and defenseman Clayton Stoner in returning to Minnesota, has answered a sluggish start to the season by recording 10 points (five goals, five assists) in his last 11 games.

“There’s a lot of things we went over because we haven’t had a chance to go over them, and you could see during the course of those last couple games, especially the last two, that they really started slipping,” Boudreau said. “And when you don’t practice, and we’ve called a couple guys up in the meantime, they don’t get a chance to really — you can talk about getting into the systems — but until you really work it, you don’t really know.”

As reported by The Athletic’s Michael Russo, the Wild will be without top-pair defenseman Jared Spurgeon for at least the next two games as the team evaluates the severity Spurgeon’s groin strain. The team also put struggling veteran defenseman Kyle Quincey on waivers.

The Golden Knights saw their eight-game home win streak snapped Tuesday with a 3-0 loss to the Dallas Stars. The shutout loss was the first in franchise history, and Vegas dropped into a first-place tie with the Los Angeles Kings in the Pacific Division.

Vegas wound up one win short of breaking the NHL record for most consecutive home wins in an inaugural season, a mark the 1917-18 Toronto Arenas had kept to themselves until this season. The Golden Knights’ NHL expansion record-tying five-game overall win streak ended, too.

ABOUT THE WILD (11-10-3): Coach Bruce Boudreau didn’t mind doing the math when discussing the recent generous play on defense by Minnesota, which has yielded 13 goals in its last two games and 30 over its last seven on the heels of three consecutive shutouts. “That’s 4 1/2 goals a game. If you’re going to do that, you can’t win in the NHL,” Boudreau said. “It’s almost impossible for me to think you can get three shutouts in a row and seven games later you allow 30 goals.” Devan Dubnyk will look to stop the bleeding after permitting 18 goals in his last four outings, albeit with a 2-1-1 mark.

Despite the loss, coach Gerard Gallant was not upset with his team’s play.

“I thought we played a pretty strong game, but we just couldn’t get any grade-A scoring chances,” Gallant said. “I think a lot of that had to do with Dallas and the way they played.”

The lack of chances contributed to leading scorer William Karlsson’s five-game goal streak ending, but the absence of forward David Perron was certainly a factor in the defeat.

Perron, a right winger who is tied for third on the team with 19 points, missed his second straight game after a hit by San Jose’s Timo Meier early in the second period of an overtime win against the Sharks on Friday.

“He’s an important player for us, there’s no doubt,” Gallant said. “He makes our team go some nights, and he’s one of our top six forwards, so when you miss a guy like that, it’s going to hurt you.”

Gallant said Wednesday he does not expect Perron to make the trip to Minnesota and Winnipeg but added that defenseman Luca Sbisa, out since Nov. 10 with a lower-body injury, would travel with the team.

PREDICTION: Golden Knights 4, Bruins 2

Oddsmakers currently have the BOSTON listed as -150-moneyline favorites versus the VEGAS, while the game’s total is sitting at 5.5.

The Vegas Golden Knights attempt to bounce back from the first loss in franchise history when they continue their seven-game homestand Sunday against the Boston Bruins. Vegas won the first three games of its inaugural season and was one period away from a fourth straight victory before imploding in the third period on Friday and dropping a 6-3 decision to Detroit.

James Neal scored his sixth goal in four contests to help give the Golden Knights a 3-2 lead after two periods, but the team surrendered four tallies over the final 20 minutes to fall to 1-1-0 on its homestand. Boston has split the first two contests of its three-game road trip, falling to Colorado 6-3 on Wednesday before rolling past Arizona 6-2 three nights later. Captain Zdeno Chara recorded a goal and two assists while Brad Marchand, Jake DeBrusk and David Pastrnak all added one of each as the Bruins extended their winning streak against the Coyotes to 11 games. Marchand leads the team with five points after netting a tally and setting up another in each of the first two contests of Boston’s trek.

ABOUT THE BRUINS (2-2-0): Anders Bjork also scored in Saturday’s victory, converting a power-play opportunity late in the third period for his first career goal. The 21-year-old left wing, who was a fifth-round pick in the 2014 draft, made his NHL debut in the season opener and notched an assist. Tim Schaller has tallied in back-to-back contests after being kept off the scoresheet in each of the first two games of the season.

OVERTIME

1. The Golden Knights are just 1-for-17 on the power play, with Neal scoring the goal.

2. Boston C Danton Heinen registered two assists on Saturday after notching one in his season debut three days earlier.

3. Neal is the first player in the expansion era to record a goal in each of a team’s first four games.

ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS (3-1-0): Less than 24 hours after scoring his first goal of the season, Erik Haula was placed on injured reserve Saturday with a lower-body injury. The 26-year-old Finnish left wing, who was selected from Minnesota’s roster in the expansion draft, is one of only two Golden Knights (defenseman Nate Schmidt) with at least one goal and one assist thus far this season. To replace Haula on the roster, Vegas recalled 30-year-old Russian center Vadim Shipachyov – who signed with the team after recording 422 points in 416 games in the Kontinental Hockey League – from Chicago of the American Hockey League.
