New Los Angeles Lakers NBA coach Luke Walton’s first matchup against Golden State, where he won a championship as an assistant in 2015, went as expected – with a Warriors’ rout.
Klay Thompson scored 24 to lead the Warriors to a 112-107 pre-season win over the Lakers in Las Vegas on Saturday.
Kevin Durant added 17 points as Golden State (4-1) shot 54.3 percent from the field. Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala and David West did not play.
Nick Young led the Lakers with 17 off the bench on 6 for 9 shooting while No. 2 overall pick Brandon Ingram scored 12 off the bench.
In other pre-season action, Andre Drummond had 10 points and 13 rebounds as the Detroit Pistons beat the visiting Philadelphia 76ers 97-76.
Tobias Harris scored a game-high 18 for the Pistons to go along with six rebounds, two assists and one steal. Detroit improved to 2-2.
In Sacramento, All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins scored 22 points and had five rebounds and six assists in the Kings’ 124-119 victory over Washington. Point guard Darren Collison finished with 22 points on 7 for 11 shooting and added eight assists.
Seven different Wizards players scored in double figures, led by Andrew Nicholson’s 19 points.
In Louisville, Andrew Wiggins scored 23 points on 9 for 16 shooting as the Minnesota Timberwolves (3-1) continued their strong preseason, beating Miami 101-96. Reigning rookie of the year Karl-Anthony Towns posted 16 points and 14 rebounds.
Keith Benson led Miami (3-2) with 14 points, but the Heat (3-2) were outrebounded by 15.
In other games, Boston won 119-107 at the New York Knicks, Chicago won 107-86 at Milwaukee, and Memphis won 134-125 in second overtime at Houston.
