LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) The Chicago Bears have placed tight end Trey Burton on injured reserve.
The 28-year-old Burton has been dealing with a groin injury all season long. He hurt his calf during last weekend’s 20-13 victory over the Detroit Lions.
Burton agreed to a $32 million, four-year contract with Chicago in free agency in March 2018. He set career highs with 54 receptions for 569 yards and six touchdowns in his first season with the Bears.
But he hasn’t been able to get healthy since he missed the Bears’ playoff loss to Philadelphia due to groin tightness. He had sports hernia surgery in the offseason and was brought along slowly during training camp.
He has 14 receptions for 84 yards in eight games this season.
The Bears also promoted linebacker James Vaughters from the practice squad on Saturday. They visit the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night.
