MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) Ball State began this basketball season with so much promise.
Players were talking about a third straight 20-win season, claiming their first Mid-American Conference title in 18 seasons and winning their first NCAA Tournament game since 1990.
On Aug. 22, those goals suddenly took a backseat when forward Zach Hollywood was found dead in his apartment after committing suicide.
Since then, counseling took precedence over basketball.
Coach James Whitford knew his team would be behind, and it was. After starting 1-4, the Cardinals have rebounded with six straight wins including their first top-10 win in 16 years as they continue to play for the memory of Hollywood.
