Freshman A&M guard J.J. Caldwell ineligible for 2016-17

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) The NCAA has ruled Texas A&M guard J.J. Caldwell ineligible for this season.

Aggies coach Billy Kennedy announced the decision in a statement Texas A&M issued Friday. No reason was given for Caldwell’s ineligibility, but Kennedy said he will remain enrolled at the university and will be eligible to compete next season.

The 6-foot-1, 184-pound freshman from Houston had starred at Cypress Woods High School as a sophomore and junior. The Houston Chronicle has reported that concern for his grades prompted his family to remove Caldwell from Cy Woods and home-school him while he competed in the Sports Association of Texas for Christian Homeschoolers.
