WASHINGTON (AP) George Washington and former men’s basketball coach Mike Lonergan have reached a settlement a year after he was fired.
Lonergan’s lawyer, Andy Phillips, released a statement Wednesday about the settlement that was agreed to by George Washington lawyers. The statement says that while Lonergan considered legal action for breach of his employment, the school denies his allegations.
The settlement brings closure to Lonergan’s situation. In the statement, his lawyer says he and the school are pleased the matter could be resolved amicably.
Lonergan led GW to the NCAA Tournament in 2014 and won the NIT in 2016. Lonergan was fired last September after an internal investigation found that he ”engaged in conduct inconsistent with the university’s values.”
