EASTON, Pa. (AP) Nick Griffin scored the final 12 points, including making six straight free throws to help Saint Peter’s hold off Lafayette 86-82 Sunday.
Griffin, who finished with a career-high 37 points, drained a 3-pointer to give the Peacocks (2-3) a 77-74 lead with 2:15 to go, hit another 3 and then two free throws to make it 82-76 with 39 seconds left. Alex Petrie connected from distance twice to bring Lafayette within range at 84-82 with 12 seconds to go. Griffin was sent to the line after a quick foul and made both. Petrie missed a final 3-point try and Quinn Taylor corralled the defensive rebound as time ran out.
Petrie, a freshman, finished with a season-high 25 points with seven 3-pointers for the Leopards (0-5). Petrie hadn’t made more than three 3s in a game this season. Matt Klinewski led with a season-best 30.
Saint Peter’s two big men, Sam Idowu and Julian Powell each fouled out and Taylor recorded his first career double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds.
