Maryland’s Jackson to skip NBA draft, stay in school

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) Maryland forward Justin Jackson will return for his sophomore season after considering a move to the NBA.

The 6-foot-7 Jackson attended the NBA scouting combine and gathered information regarding his potential stock in the draft before deciding to stay in school.

In a statement released by Maryland on Wednesday, Jackson said his experience in the combine ”will be beneficial to my long-term development.”

Now he’ll look to help the Terrapins improve upon last season’s 24-9 record.

Jackson averaged 10.5 points and a team-high six rebounds as a freshman to help the Terps reach the NCAA Tournament. Maryland advanced to the NCAAs for a third straight season.

Coach Mark Turgeon expects Jackson to ”develop as both a player and a person and be a major contributor to our program.”
