JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) Nick Griffin hit five 3-pointers and scored 22 and Elijah Gonzales added 15 points and nine assists to power Saint Peter’s to an 84-58 victory over Quinnipiac on Sunday.
Nnamdi Enechionyia also had 15 points and Samuel Idowu scored 10 for the Peacocks (8-7, 2-2 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). Enechionyia knocked down 3 of 5 from 3-point range as Saint Peter’s shot 57 percent from long range and 61.5 percent overall. Davauhnte Turner had four of the Peacocks’ 10 steals.
Cameron Young scored 18 to pace the Bobcats (5-11, 2-2), while Chaise Daniels chipped in with 16 points and five rebounds. Quinnipiac made just 16 of 55 shots (29 percent), including 9 of 34 from beyond the arc (26.5 percent).
Quinnipiac led just once, 3-2, on Young’s 3-pointer in the first minute. Idowu’s bucket regained the lead for the Peacocks and they upped their advantage to 43-28 by halftime.
Saint Peter’s is 5-0 at the Yanitelli Center, improving its best start at home in 21 years.
