2019 FCS vs. FBS: Northeast ConferenceBy CRAIG HALEY

(STATS) – Northeast Conference teams are still trying to break through with their first victory over FBS competition.

They’re 0-15 all-time, with Wagner playing in nine of the matchups.

But the success of the FCS overall suggests it’s just a matter of time for the NEC, which makes four more attempts in 2019.

As FCS programs seek to make their mark again this year, here’s a look at the games involving Big Sky teams:

The Matchups (4) – Central Connecticut State: Eastern Michigan (Sept. 21); Robert Morris: Buffalo (Aug. 29); Wagner: Connecticut (Aug. 29) and Florida Atlantic (Sept. 21)

Glamour Game – Wagner at Connecticut (Aug. 29): The Seahawks are playing an FBS opponent for the eighth consecutive season. UConn has lost 31 of its last 38 games, and only four of the seven wins are against FBS opponents.

Upset Alert – Central Connecticut State at Eastern Michigan (Sept. 21): Interim head coach Ryan McCarthy is leading a Blue Devils squad that has the type of running game – big linemen and explosive running backs – to trouble the opposition. Eastern Michigan ranked 102nd against the run in the FBS last year.

Notable – Bryant, Duquesne, Sacred Heart, Saint Francis and transitioning members Long Island and Merrimack are not playing FBS opponents this season. Next year, Bryant will visit Central Michigan and Saint Francis has a date at Buffalo. … Robert Morris’ season-opener at Buffalo (10-4 last year) is its first-ever FBS game. … Wagner doesn’t currently have an FBS opponent announced for 2020.
