At media days, star quarterbacks can be hard to find

Conference media days have become made-for-TV events, but some of the most notable players are often missing.

Plenty of teams have been leaving their quarterbacks at home. Even some of the biggest stars in college football such as Penn State’s Christian Hackenberg, Clemson’s Deshaun Watson and Ohio State’s Cardale Jones are being left behind as coaches lean toward rewarding upperclassmen with a media day trip.

Part of the reason is that experienced seniors can stay on message.

College football’s media day madness hits the home stretch this week when the Big Ten and Pac-12 hold their preseason talkfests on Thursday and Friday. The American Athletic Conference is the last FBS league to go early next week.
