DeLuca improves 40 times at NDSU pro dayBy CRAIG HALEY

(STATS) – The 21 NFL teams represented at FCS national champion North Dakota State’s annual pro day Thursday must have liked linebacker Nick DeLuca’s improved time in the 40-yard dash.

It’s a question he had to answer for scouts.

DeLuca’s unofficial 40 times appeared to range from 4.69 to 4.76 seconds, he said – much better than the sluggish 4.85 he posted at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis earlier this month.

The 6-foot-3, 248-pound DeLuca, a 2017 first-team FCS All-American and a starter in NDSU’s last three national championship game wins, is the highest-ranked Bison prospect as a projected late-rounder in the April 26-28 draft. Safety Tre Dempsey and offensive lineman Austin Kuhnert were the other key prospects in a group of 10 who participated in the pro day in Fargo.

“I definitely hit some of the marks that I wanted to,” DeLuca said. “Just being able to do everything again in another setting where I’m a little more comfortable. Things were on our own terms, this is our home basically. It definitely was a good turnout with scouts. It felt good with everything.”

North Dakota State had eight players on NFL rosters last year, the second-most among FCS schools.
