FCS prospects come up ‘big’ at NFL CombineBy CRAIG HALEY

(STATS) – The big men from the FCS were among the winners at the NFL Combine, which concluded Monday.

It wasn’t just limited to the offensive and defensive linemen.

Early-entry wide receiver Jazz Ferguson from Northwestern State measured up well in many ways while improving his status heading toward the NFL Draft April 25-27.

Among the true big men, offensive linemen Tytus Howard of Alabama State, Iosua Opeta of Weber State and Oli Udoh of Elon and Western Illinois defensive tackle Khalen Saunders also had impressive showings.

Following were the measurables and drill results of the 14 FCS players who were in Indianapolis:

—=

Nasir Adderley, FS, Delaware

Height: 5-11 3/4; Weight: 206; Hand: 9 inches; Arm: 31 inches; Wingspan: 74 3/4 inches

A high ankle sprain, first suffered during Adderley’s senior season, kept him out of the testing and drills (Delaware’s pro day is March 22). He is projected to be the first FCS player selected in the draft.

—=

Jordan Brown, CB, South Dakota State

Height: 6-0 3/8; Weight: 201; Hand: 9 5/8; Arm: 30 1/2; Wingspan: 73 3/8

40-yard dash: 4.51 seconds; Bench press (225 pounds): 13 reps; Vertical jump: 39.5 inches; Broad jump: 128 inches

Brown tied for fifth in the vertical jump among cornerbacks and showed his excellent technique during on-field drills.

—=

Emmanuel Butler, WR, Northern Arizona

Height: 6-3; Weight: 217; Hand: 10 1/8; Arm: 33; Weight: 79 1/4

Bench press: 11; Vertical jump: 36 inches; Broad jump: 115 inches; 20-yard shuttle: 4.22 seconds

The size and large hands are undeniable, although Butler surely had to answer concerns over past injuries.

—=

Keelan Doss, WR, UC Davis

Height: 6-2; Weight: 211; Hand: 9 1/2; Arm: 31 3/4; Wingspan: 77 1/8

Bench press: 8

Doss tweaked a pectoral muscle during the bench press and skipped the other events to risk further injury.

Jazz Ferguson, WR, Northwestern State

Height: 6-5; Weight: 227; Hand: 9 1/4; Arm: 34 1/4; Wingspan: 81 1/2

40 dash: 4.45; Bench press: 8; Vertical jump: 37; Broad jump: 123; 3-cone drill: 7.25 seconds; 20 shuttle: 4.59

Two sub-4.5 runs in the 40 stood out when added to Ferguson’s terrific size and wingspan. The small total in the bench press was a negative.

—=

Ethan Greenidge, OT, Villanova

Height: 6-4 3/8; Weight: 327; Hand: 10 3/8; Arm: 34 3/4; Wingspan: 82 7/8

Greenidge skipped the drills because he is coming off labrum surgery in late January.

—=

Tytus Howard, OT, Alabama State

Height: 6-5; Weight: 322; Hand: 10 5/8; Arm: 34; Wingspan: 85 1/8

40 dash: 5.05; Bench press: 21; Vertical jump: 29.5; Broad jump: 103; 3-cone drill: 8.34; 20 shuttle: 4.87

The noted athleticism was on full display as Howard tied for sixth in the 40 among O-linemen (Elon’s Oli Udoh did as well).

—=

Darryl Johnson Jr., DE, North Carolina A&T

Height: 6-6; Weight: 253; Hand: 10; Arm: 33 7/8; Wingspan: 77 7/8

Bench press: 20

The weight was encouraging as the early-entry prospect needed to add to his long, lean frame.

—=

Joshua Miles, OG, Morgan State

Height: 6-5; Weight: 314; Hand: 10 3/4; Arm: 35 5/8; Wingspan: 84 7/8

40 dash: 5.32; Vertical jump: 36; Broad jump: 109; 3-cone drill: 8.07; 20 shuttle: 4.75

Miles measured in with the same exceptional wingspan of fellow MEAC O-lineman Brandon Parker from North Carolina A&T at last year’s Combine. It led to Miles having the top vertical jump at his position.

—=

Iosua Opeta, OG, Weber State

Height: 6-4 1/4; Weight: 301; Hand: 9 7/8; Arm: 33 1/4; Wingspan: 78 1/4

40 dash: 5.02; Bench press: 39; Vertical jump: 33; Broad jump: 112; 3-cone drill: 8.06; 20 shuttle: 4.94

The 39 bench press reps not only bested other linemen by five, it was the second-most at the position since Combine records dating to 1987 (Michigan’s David Molk had 41 reps in 2012).

—=

Khalen Saunders, DT, Western Illinois

Height: 6-0; Weight: 324; Hand: 9 1/8; Arm: 32 1/4; Wingspan: 78 3/4

40 dash: 5.01; Bench press: 27; Vertical jump: 30.5; Broad jump: 101; 3-cone drill: 7.57; 20 shuttle: 4.62

The big man continued to flash his agility and quickness, boasting a strong 40 with a 1.73-second 10-yard split.

—-=

Easton Stick, QB, North Dakota State

Height: 6-1 1/4; Weight: 224; Hand: 9 1/4; Arm: 32 1/8; Wingspan: 76 1/8

40 dash: 4.62; Vertical jump: 33.5; Broad jump: 118; 3-cone drill: 6.65; 20 shuttle: 4.05

Although coming up short of his 6-2 listed height at NDSU, Stick was outstanding in the drills, including a 3-cone performance that matched the best by a quarterback in Combine history. He was first among QBs in the 20 shuttle.

—=

Oli Udoh, OT, Elon

Height: 6-5 1/2; Weight: 323; Hand: 10; Arm: 35 3/8; Wingspan: 85 1/8

40 dash: 5.05; Bench press: 26; Vertical jump: 28.5; Broad jump: 105; 3-cone drill: 7.88; 20 shuttle: 5.05

Udoh has shed nearly 60 pounds since his high weight and is a combination of power and speed. His arm length and wingspan are exceptional.

—=

Alex Wesley, WR, Northern Colorado

Height: 5-11 7/8; Weight: 190; Hand: 9; Arm: 31 1/4; Wingspan: 72 3/4

40 dash: 4.45; Bench press: 13; Vertical jump: 38.5; Broad jump: 125; 3-cone drill: 7.4; 20 shuttle 4.44

The 40 time was slightly below expectations for the former Big Sky track standout. It tied for 12th among wide receivers.
