Female coaching interns to work Dartmouth camp

(STATS) – Dartmouth preseason football camp will have a more diverse look when it begins Sunday – two females will serve as coaching interns.

Coach Buddy Teevens announced the hiring of Chenell Tillman-Brooks and Callie Brownson on Wednesday. They will be full members of the coaching staff for the first two weeks of camp.

The duo will be allowed to support and organize on-field drills but not instruct them, due to NCAA regulations. They can take part in all team activities, including meetings on the recruiting process, strength and conditioning, practice and game planning, film evaluation, staff meetings and personnel discussions.

Tillman-Brooks, a Virginia native now living in Texas, and Brownson, also a Virginian, caught Teevens’ attention when he hired them to coach along with 14 other females at a women’s clinic and one-day camp for the Manning Passing Academy.

“I was tremendously impressed with the enthusiasm, energy, professionalism, expertise and knowledge the collective group had,” Teevens said. “After the conclusion of the camp and clinic, I spoke with a lot of them about their football plans down the road, and a number of them mentioned they would like to further get into coaching football. I discovered that there are likely hundreds of females coaching at the Pop Warner level, so why not help them get access to as much knowledge and expertise on the game and player safety as possible?”

Dartmouth has been at the forefront of player safety initiatives. Teevens said he hopes the two interns will utilize some of the concepts after leaving the Ivy League school.
