Florida A&M ineligible for 2019 postseason

(STATS) – Florida A&M’s football program is talented enough to challenge for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference title this fall, but the Rattlers won’t be participating in the postseason due to NCAA sanctions.

The school has self-imposed a postseason ban in the 2019-20 academic year for football, baseball, men’s basketball, men’s track and field, women’s basketball and volleyball after the NCAA discovered 93 student-athletes from 12 sports were improperly certified, making them ineligible when they competed in the 2010-11 through 2016-17 academic years.

Other sanctions include a 10 percent reduction in scholarships for football during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 academic years.

The Rattlers tied for second in the MEAC in coach Willie Simmons’ first season last year and can return 14 starters this season. The MEAC champ participates in the Celebration Bowl, with its other teams are eligible for at-large bids to the FCS playoffs.
