Huskers' Armstrong hurt, backup Fyfe works with top offense

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) Nebraska quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. has missed his second straight practice, watching from the sideline with a protective boot on his right foot.

Backup Ryker Fyfe worked with the No. 1 offense Tuesday and said afterward he is preparing as if he will start Saturday’s game at Purdue. The former walk-on’s only action this season came in a 48-9 win over South Alabama when he was behind center for the Huskers’ final three series.

Coach Mike Riley didn’t mention Armstrong on Monday when running down the list of injured players. Riley won’t meet with reporters again until Thursday.

Armstrong came up limping after throwing a pass in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s loss to Northwestern. It appeared a teammate and a Northwestern player landed on his foot after he released the ball.
