Maine’s Harasymiak leaving for Minnesota staffBy CRAIG HALEY

(STATS) – Maine’s deepest run in the FCS playoffs has cost the CAA Football champion its head coach.

Joe Harasymiak has been hired as an assistant defensive coach at Minnesota, the Big Ten school announced Thursday.

Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel first reported the move.

Harasymiak, 32, was still one of the younger head coaches on the FCS level even after three seasons with the Black Bears. He had a 20-15 record, including 10-4 this season, when they won the CAA title for the first time since 2013 and advanced to the FCS semifinals, where they lost at Eastern Washington 50-19 last Saturday.

He had been at Maine since 2011, serving five seasons on the defensive side of the ball until coach Jack Cosgrove’s retirement following the 2015 season.

P.J. Fleck is in his second season as Minnesota’s coach. The Gophers are 6-6 heading into the Quick Lane Bowl against Georgia Tech on Dec. 26.
