LOS ANGELES (AP) UCLA cornerback Ishmael Adams has been charged with misdemeanor battery over a run-in he had with an Uber driver shortly before the start of the season.
The Los Angeles city attorney’s office filed the charge Monday.
The office received the case after the district attorney declined felony charges against Adams last month. Authorities had alleged that Adams stole a cellphone during an Aug. 30 fight with the driver.
The misdemeanor charge does not include theft, only battery against a transportation operator.
Adams served a three-game suspension for the Bruins (4-2) over the incident, and was reinstated when no felony charge was filed.
UCLA declined comment on the new charge.
Coach Jim Mora said when Adams was reinstated that he had profusely apologized and accepted the consequences for the incident.
