(STATS) – North Dakota State’s “other” Wentz – senior tight end Connor Wentz – hasn’t heard recently from his more famous cousin, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, about the Bison’s run to the FCS championship game.
It might not be as surprising as it sounds. While Carson Wentz remains a big part of NDSU football, Connor feels his cousin grasps the experience and drive on this year’s team, which seeks a sixth national title in seven years against James Madison on Saturday.
But don’t bet against Carson Wentz getting a message to the Bison before the game.
“He knows we know how to go and get a win,” Connor said. “We’ve been here before and he knows that. I’m sure we’ll get something on Friday or Saturday, but he knows we know what it takes.”
The Pro Bowler Wentz is a little preoccupied with the Eagles being the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs and his recovery from a season-ending torn ACL, but even if he doesn’t make his way to seeing the Bison during the Eagles’ bye weekend, dozens of former players will make an appearance at Friday’s final team walk-through to give encouragement, a ritual which started during the team’s record run of five straight titles. NFL players such as Kyle Emanuel, C.J. Smith, Billy Turner and Marcus Williams are expected to be among the visitors.
