NFL draft picks by FCS conference in 2010sBy CRAIG HALEY

(STATS) – Villanova defensive tackle Tanoh Kpassagnon’s second-round selection by the Kansas City Chiefs in last year’s NFL draft underscored the widespread talent across the FCS.

It marked the fifth straight year that a different conference could lay claim to having the first player selected from the subdivision.

CAA Football collected that distinction with Kpassagnon. When another Villanova player, offensive tackle Brad Seaton, went to the Tennessee Titans in the seventh round, the CAA pulled into a tie with the Southern Conference for the most NFL draft picks among FCS conferences during the 2010s:

22 – CAA Football and Southern Conference

20 – Big Sky Conference

18 – Missouri Valley Football Conference

12 – Ohio Valley Conference

11 – Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and Southland Conference

8 – Ivy League

6 – Big South Conference

5 – Southwestern Athletic Conference

3 – Patriot League and Pioneer Football League

2 – Great West Conference and FCS Independent

0 – Northeast Conference

Since 2010, 145 FCS players have been drafted – an average of over 18 per year. Many more players annually sign contracts with NFL teams as undrafted free agents.
