Quenton Bundrage done for season

After losing its opener to North Dakota State, Iowa State’s season has gotten even worse.

Cyclones coach Paul Rhoads announced Monday that wide receiver Quenton Bundrage would miss the rest of the season after tearing his ACL in the first quarter against the Bison.

Quenton Bundrage led Iowa State in receiving with 48 catches for 676 yards and nine touchdowns in 2013.

Bundrage was Iowa State’s leading receiver last year, and he was third in the Big 12 with nine touchdown receptions.

“He’s a big playmaker,” Rhoads said. “Bundrage was a very big part of our offense … he was looking forward to not only a big-play season but a consistent season for himself. To have that taken away on the fourth play of a football game is really disheartening for the young man. I feel for him.”

The Cyclones will likely lean on true freshman Allen Lazard to replace Bundrage’s production in the lineup. Lazard, the top recruit in Iowa State’s signing class in February, had a 48-yard reception Saturday.

Iowa State opens Big 12 play this weekend against Kansas State.

The Cyclones also lost center Tom Farniok to a knee injury against the Bison, but Rhoads said Farniok will be able to go against the Wildcats.

Iowa State was held scoreless for the final 44 minutes and gained just 57 yards in the second half as North Dakota State rattled off 34 unanswered points.
