Samford to face competitive 2018 schedule

(STATS) – Samford announced its 11-game 2018 schedule on Wednesday. The Bulldogs hope to end it with a Southern Conference championship.

Coach Chris Hatcher’s squad is coming off an 8-4 season in which it earned an at-large bid to the FCS playoffs.

Samford will host five games, beginning with Shorter on Aug. 30. The Bulldogs also will be home for SoCon opponents Mercer (Sept. 15), Western Carolina (Oct. 6), VMI (Oct. 13) and Wofford (Nov. 3).

The road highlights include visits to Florida State (Sept. 8) and Kennesaw State (Sept. 29). Samford beat Kennesaw in the regular season last year, but was eliminated in the playoffs by the Big South champ.

The Bulldogs return last year’s SoCon offensive player of the year (quarterback Devlin Hodges) and defensive player of the year (defensive end Ahmad Gooden).
