(STATS) – With the SWAC season no longer leading to a conference championship game, Alcorn State coach Fred McNair said his team will treat each game in the 2018 regular season as if it’s one.
Alcorn will play an 11-game schedule, announced Wednesday and including five home games as well as two road games against FBS opponents.
The Braves, who finished 7-5 last season, will open the season on Sept. 1 at Georgia Tech and visit New Mexico State on Nov. 3. They’ve lost one all-time meeting with both FBS programs.
Their games at Spinks-Casem Stadium are against Louisiana College (Sept. 8) and SWAC opponents Texas Southern (Sept. 15), Alabama State (Oct. 6), Grambling State (Oct. 20) and Jackson State (Nov. 17). The Texas Southern game will not count toward the conference standings.
The Braves played in the final four SWAC title games, winning in 2014 and ’15. Beginning this season, the conference will send its regular-season champion to the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl.
