(STATS) – Sacramento State named Utah offensive coordinator Troy Taylor as its new coach on Monday.
Taylor, a Northern California native, spent two seasons with the Utes, helping them to the school’s first Pac-12 South title this year.
He previously worked in the Big Sky Conference as Eastern Washington’s co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2016, when the Eagles reached the FCS semifinals and Gage Gubrud passed for 5,160 yards, a single-season record in the subdivision.
The former Cal quarterback, a 1990 fourth-year pick of the New York Jets, becomes a college head coach for the first time, having coached most his career at California high schools.
Sacramento State fired Jody Sears on Nov. 26 after a 2-8 season and 20-35 record in five seasons.
