KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) The prosecutor and defense lawyers in the rape trial of former University of Tennessee football players A.J. Johnson and Michael Williams as expected offer starkly different accounts of what occurred nearly four years ago.
A woman says Johnson, a former linebacker at Tennessee, and Williams, an ex-defensive back for the Volunteers, raped her during the early morning hours on Nov. 16, 2014. Both players were suspended from the team less than 48 hours later and never played for Tennessee again.
Knox County Deputy District Attorney General Kyle Hixson said Monday in his opening statement that Johnson and Williams took turns raping the woman and passing her ”back and forth like a rag doll.” Defense lawyers say the woman voluntarily had sex with both players before lying that she was raped.
